The Rays will announce the signing of James Shields to a four-year deal with three option years on Wednesday.

 

Shields is expected to be guaranteed $12 million, but he could earn as much as $38 million-$40 million if the options are picked up and he reaches certain incentives.

If he proves last year wasn't a fluke, that's a good deal.

Again, a great deal locking up a pre-arb player. The risk is a lot greater doing it with pitchers instead of hitters, but this deal is great. I'd love to get Hill signed to a simliar deal.

Look at his numbers without that one game pasting he took from the Yankees (how many earned runs was that?).

 

A question: Why don't the Cubs ever seem to sign their players to contracts like these? Because we develop a lot fewer of them, yeah I know, but...
