Yeeeeah, OK.

I think using some unsupported, hypothetical situation as evidence that the Cubs are a horribly run franchise involves the use of quite porous reasoning.

Agreed, but 100 years without a WS as well as 5 post-season appear. since '45 doesn't envoke a model of success.

No, but Hendry has been the GM of a team that has made it to the post season twice in the past 5 years. Not to mention that even if he didn't make another move this offseason, the Cubs would be favorites to return to the post season again in '08.

I'm actually encouraged by the moves he has made this offseason.

Making it to the post-season and having the talent to win a WS are two diff. things, especiallt with how the talent distribution is set-up. The Cubs have not been successful over the last 5 years, though.

The point is, we already know they are a horribly run franchise.

And my point is, if it's so widely-accepted that the Cubs are such a horribly run franchise, then one should have a very easy time pointing to concrete examples to support such an assertion rather than what amounts to essentially grasping at straws.

Or the list of of examples is so hugely long over the course of a 100 year world series drought, and has been so thoroughly discussed over the years, that it's actually draining to rehash those discussions.

No thanks on Melky. Frankly, if there's a solid starter that requires Pie, I'd rather just sign Cameron. Or, alternatively, move Soriano or Fukudome to CF and play Murton. A Murton/Soriano/Fukudome outfield would be quite nice, methinks.

I'm going to list as many as I can in 2 minutes time

1 allowed Maddux to walk so they could sign 2 lesser pitchers

2. traded at least 2 HOF level players for quick fixes

3. routinely try to "catch lightning in a bottle" by signing players like Cliff Floyd

4. Overpay for high priced/ not very talented veterans

5. Routinely bring in players via trade or FA that are 5 years removed from being good (Jason Kendall)

6. haven't been able to develop a good position player in recent memory

and I ran out of time because I'm a slow typist

5 post-season appearances since 1984 probably isn't terrible, though....
1 postseason series win since 1908 and 0 World Series appearances since 1945 is beyond horrible; it's completely inexcusable and unforgiveable.
