Have they announced the players/other guys scheduled to attend yet? I don't think I've seen such a release anywhere.

It was in the Vineline and the complete list will be in the Chicago Tribune sports section the Sunday prior to the convention.

You all are excited to go and I am thrilled out of my mind not to go this year. It hasn't been the same since October 2003. The fans are different and it is oversold and packed with people. It has forced the players to hide from the fans rather than hang out in Kitty O'Sheas and talk at the end of each day's activities. Even the former players hide because the fans are different now. It used to be a lot of fun but not anymore to me.

I agree. I went for the first time last year, and never really got a chance to enjoy myself, as I spent hours upon hours waiting in line. The place was way too full, and it looked like there were way too many tickets sold for a small amount of space. One jerk even took it upon himself to stop a line all by himself because he thought everyone was trying to cut in line to get Alan Trammell's autograph. He almost came to blows with a couple other people. Even those people who won chances to get "prime" autographs weren't actually guaranteed of getting them.

I can't imagine a situation where I'll go back.

---- Yeah maybe I should have explained myself. First of all, I had to cancel my Hotel reservation because I couldn't get tickets...and I wasn't about to pay $100.00 a piece for two tickets, or whatever it is now. Yeah, I'm not going but I always look forward to the interviews/features that I can see On Comcast Sports Net and WGN. Also you can click on to 720am/WGN Radio, and listen to what's happening that weekend. I wish I could be there but as a "die hard" fan, I look forward to at least getting some morsel of news about the Cubs.

-- To those of you that we're a little disappointed in my thread, hoping that it contained more...I'm sorry but I wanted to be the first to start a thread about the Convention. It is January 2008, after all.

Okay, you had a room at the Chicago Hilton for the convention and you cancelled it because you didn't have tickets? I am going to now tell you something that will make you kick yourself that obviously you didn't understand...each room comes with four passes which you pay $10 each for at registration. Someone at the Hilton obviously did not tell you that when you called to make the reservation.

Thanks Red Ivy but I had a reservation at the Palmer House Hilton, which is at 17 East Monroe Street (maybe 6 blocks from the Convention?)... so I don't think that applies to the Hilton, where I booked a room. Anyway as it turns out, that week I'll be going in for Chemotherapy-- so I'm not sure how I'll be feeling by the weekend. I think what I'm going to try to do instead, is just go and catch a game in Spring Training. But I do appreciate the info.--you're right, I wasn't aware of that.

Sorry to hear that you have to go through Chemo and I hope you get well quickly. However, now you know for next year and make sure you reserve the room early.

There you go...he put it better than I ever could have imagined. It wasn't like that before 03...it wasn't like that when Sammy was the Gladiator and didn't even show up to the convention quite frankly.

Wow. I can't stand "really" crowded areas and standing in line for hours wears me out. I guess I'll need to give serious thought as to whether or not, I want to attend next year.

I've always thought the Bears do a pretty good job with their convention. Obviously the autograph lines are long, but it's for people like Vasher, Mark Anderson, Berrian, etc. I don't remember seeing the stars (Harris, Urlacher, Briggs) at the autograph sessions. But the info sessions and Q & A's are usually great...plenty of seating and time for everyones questions if they have one.

Can anyone compare the two? I've never been to the Cubs, mostly because I just assumed it was a zoo.

--As has been already been reported, a list of players and personnel attending the Cubs Convention will be released this Sunday. I thought this was interesting though...

Quote from article: "Among the Minor League players invited to the Convention are outfielder Tyler Colvin, and pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Rocky Roquet".

-- This also is note worthy... "Kosuke Fukudome is preparing for his first season with the Cubs by training in Hawaii. According to the Chunichi News, Fukudome and his personal trainer Hiroshi Nakazawa left Japan for Hawaii on Jan. 7".

-- I hope they can talk Kosuke into taking a break from his workouts and attend the Convention. I think he would be overwhelmed.

Looks like I may have one extra pass. I'll need to ship it out today to guarantee delivery. PM if you're interested.

Wow. I guess it's a little two late for me... ah, it wouldn't have worked anyway. You shouldn't have any problem getting rid of your ticket, vance. Hey maybe next year you could give us pointers on how best to secure tickets for the event.

Ok...it looks like now I may have three passes. I'll sell one, all, whatever for best offer plus shipping. If I send priority it should make it in time, but not guaranteed. I can send express mail and it will be to you on the next day. PM me if interested.

If you don't have the bucks maybe we can strike a deal.

I'd do it Red Ivy but I have chemotherapy this week. In fact, I go in tomorrow and Thursday. I just hope I don't feel crummy this weekend. But thanks for thinking of me.
