They broke it over at orioleshangout a while ago, but here's the first media confirmation:

Baltimore Sun

wo years after he first suggested that he'd benefit from a change of scenery, Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada finally got his wish as he was traded to the Houston Astros today in president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail's boldest move to date.

In return for the four-time All-Star, the Orioles will get outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo.

Working again. Interesting that he goes to the Astros. He will be an improvement for them but I don't think they have the pitching to compete anyway.

Moral of the story: be careful what you wish for, you just might get it...

Guys we don't want roberts.

I would have rather had Tejada. Though it does look like the Astros gave up a lot for him. Not as much as Jason Jennings, but still.

Unfortunately, that's irrelevant. Roberts is inevitable.

Though I'd love him if it meant Derosa would move to SS, but that's not happening either.

this is true, but i am optimistically thinking some how a wrench will get thrown into the wheels of hendry's mind

I think more likely the wrench comes from the Orioles side.

OK. Step one: throw the wrench in. Step two: take wrench out, make new wheel labeled "Pie for Greene."

I don't want him for any rational reason, I'll admit. I want him for the purely irrational desire to get Soriano out of the leadoff spot. I know that lineup positioning matters little, and that Soriano really isn't a terrible option as a leadoff hitter, but there's just a little bit of that conventional wisdom ingrained in me that wants him in the late-middle of the order. I feel like Roberts would play a big role in getting that done.

Plus, if you really are so sure that DeRosa will regress to the mean next year, wouldn't Roberts be a pretty good upgrade there?

All that said, I'd be more excited about a trade for a new SS than I would be about Roberts.

go read my comments in other threads. i am not about to explain it for the the 10th time.

Here's one reason why:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2609699

Some of baseball's biggest stars responded with denials and denunciations Sunday following a Los Angeles Times report in which former pitcher Jason Grimsley accused five players of using performance-enhancing drugs, according to a federal agent's affidavit. The other players cited were Baltimore teammates Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons.

Gibbons already went down, and maybe Tejada will be on the Mitchell report.

Soriano will likely still leadoff, just now Roberts will hit second instead of Theriot.

Plus, as everyone else has said, Roberts is pretty much an inevitability if the Orioles don't change their minds about trading him. Might as well just accept it. When I first heard the rumor last week, I was thinking, "WTF, another second baseman rumor??!"

Now it's more like, "OK, why not?"

Considering they have practically no chance at post-season play over the next 2 years, that sounds like a good trade for the O's. 2 of those guys, I believe, are top 10 prospects, and Luke Scott has upside.

I would have rather had Tejada than Roberts. I want Greene more than both.

Houston gave up a pile of crap for him, too. Nice deal for them, assuming he isn't suspended or something.
