Cubs get Kemp, Eithier, Hu/Furcal

Yeah, but the Dodgers wouldn't. If they did, I'd then try to trade Kemp, Hu/Furcal, and young pitching (not even sure who would be of interest to Minnesota) for Santana. I'd keep Ethier for RF, Fukudome for CF.

How are the Cubs going to afford Fukudome and Santana, or are you just going to let Santana walk after 2008?

I wouldn't be opposed to letting Santana walk. 1 year of him and draft picks is a pretty decent haul for what he provides on the mound. Of course, if I was the GM, I'd re-sign him and look to trade Derrek Lee and Soriano long before I'd want to get rid of Santana.

I wasn't even thinking about flipping players in another trade, I was just looking at the Dodgers' needs and the Cubs' needs. The Dodgers keep getting mentioned in trades for more pitching (Hill - cheap, young, and proven), need a 3B (DeRosa), and have a glut of OF. Murton could take over in LF (bench or dump) Pierre and Pie would certainly be ready for CF when Jones' contract ends and if Furcal was included would free up money. Cubs could would have Soriano/Kemp/Eithier (without Fukudome) for quite a few years and would solidify SS with Furcal (or Theriot with Hu in the wings).

Stories re the Jones signing said he and Furcal are good friends from their days in Atlanta & Furcal spoke to Jones and perhaps helped pursuade him to sign w/the Dodgers, so I doubt LA would move Furcal now.
