Micah Owings-S- Diamondbacks Dec. 5 - 9:16 am et

Manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday that Micah Owings could see time at first base in 2008.

A two-way college star, Owings batted .333 with a dozen extra-base hits in 60 at-bats as a rookie in addition to going 8-8 with a 4.30 ERA in 152 2/3 innings. "I think you ask any guy in there, if they can get on the field some more, my answer would be yes every time," Owings said. "If they can get me the opportunity to swing some more, I'll take it in a heartbeat."

Modern Day Babe Ruth?

Well, except Ruth pitched better. And had a far more awesome diet and off-the-field schedule.

He'll be a 1B permanently in the not to distant future.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I wonder how he's going to pan out with more AB's?

Why not Connor Jackson?

Because he dropped the dishes on his way to the sink after dinner, and he's a bad boy! BAD! BAD FORMER 1ST ROUND DRAFT PICK! YOU SIT THE BENCH IN FAVOR OF THE PITCHER!

At least that's how I pictured it happening. Seriously though, between Hendry indirectly insulting Marquis and Melvin pretty much saying he doesn't think Jackson is good enough to start every day because they want to play a pitcher in his spot instead, MLB management really could give a crap about feelings this offseason

Hendry insulting Marquis? What did I miss?

The quote of when GM's ask Hendry about Rich Hill he counters with Marquis as a joke, indirectly insulting Marquis and his value as a pitcher.

You know, we drafted this guy the year before the D'Backs did.

Yup, you were probably too young to remember. I had the same reaction after he decided to go back to school. I knew we missed out on something good.
