The Pirates are prepared to trade outfielder Xavier Nady.

And, if they cannot do so within the next few days, according to one official with direct knowledge of their plans, they are considering non-tendering him before the Dec. 12 deadline to offer salary arbitration. That would allow him to become a free agent.

If Nady is let go, he could give the Cubs some insurance for Pie and also be a versatile 4th outfielder. If he's let go, I'd like to see the Cubs take a chance on him.

I'd rather Murton be the 4th outfielder.

Nady would be a starter and he's light years better than Murton

Why? Because he'll hit for a little more power while showing no patience at the plate? The Cubs need less hitters like Nady, not more.

I'm still trying to figure out why everyone is down on Murton....

It seems more accurate to say that fans have come to the conclusion that Cubs management is down on Murton, and are finally becoming realistic about his chances of staying in Chicago. I predict he'll be gone by Thursday...

I'm trying to figure out why everyone's so high on Nady. "Light years" better than Murton? Here's what I don't like about Nady:

- He's got the kind of rotten K/BB ratio that makes you wonder if he was secretly brought up in the Cubs organization. 101 strikeouts in 431 ABs against 23 walks? Ugh.

- His name was bandied about in trades during his hot first half, but his lousy second half is more likely what you get from Nady.

- On his career, he's a .729 OPS hitter against righties.

- He's a really bad defensively outfielder according to the metrics I'm looking at, whatever position he's playing.

If he were a Cub we'd probably be trying to get rid of him.
