Are the Cubs Looking at Bartolo Colon as 5th Starter?

Got this from the Boston Globe, Nick Cafardo's column.

 

"Fixer-uppers for sale

There's going to be a market for three rehab guys: Bartolo Colon, Kris Benson, and Matt Clement. Benson, whose $7 million option was not picked up by the Orioles, is drawing a lot of interest, while Clement is being sought by at least the Padres and Royals. Colon is unlikely to return to the Angels, but teams looking for a fifth starter (Giants, Cubs, White Sox, Phillies) might take a flier on him."

That sounds like speculation by the writer about teams who may possibly need a 5th starter rather than actual interest, at least to me.

His fastball is down to 94 or so, which is fast enough if he could change speeds. He can't. Also an injury risk.

A player's contract won't decrease if he reaches a certain weight, but the incentive (to stay below a certain weight) is paid if that end of the bargain is held by the player. See Schilling, Curt.

That looks like what Miguel Cabrera will look like in a couple years. Not necessarily the uniform, just the body size.
