Over at baseball-fever, I was asked by super stat guru Bill Burgess to use my semi-decent editing skills to put together some short video clips of some of the all time greats JUST playing baseball. I've been very busy studying for exams, so I'm not able to put out as many as I'd like, but here's what I've got so far....I'll add the news ones as I come out with them.

*hardest part is finding music to fill in the 30-50 seconds.

Ty Cobb

Walter Johnson

Grover Cleveland Alexander

*The footage of him pitching in a game is from game 7 of the 1926 World Series with the batter, Tony Lazzeri, striking out with the bases loaded in the 8th inning.

Christy Mathewson

* Note Christy's cross-handed swing.

Satchel Paige

Rogers Hornsby

Lou Gehrig

Bob Feller

Babe Ruth

* Check out the Babe at 1:27 getting thrown out trying to steal which ENDED the 1926 World Series.

Joe DiMaggio

Dizzy Dean

* The shot of Dizzy getting knocked out cold is from Game 4 of the 1934 World Series. He later came back and won Game 7.

Jimmie Foxx

Carl Hubbell

Joe Medwick

* The ruckus at the end is from game 7 of the 1934 WS between the Cardinals and Tigers. Medwick supposedly spiked the Tigers 3rd baseman trying for a triple. The Detroit crowd got hostile (huge shock) and pelted Medwick in left field with debris. Commissioner Landis ordered Medwick ejected from the game for his own protection.

Jackie Robinson

Willie Mays

Mickey Mantle

Stan Musial

Mel Ott

Yogi Berra

Bob Gibson

Sandy Koufax

Ted Williams

boy, the grass on ballfields back in the day looked horrendous.

i like that on a couple of Ruth's swings, he literally took 3 steps towards the pitcher before swinging

That's because pitchers only threw 25 mph back in the day.

You sure about that? After that out, the players on the other team just ran into the dugout. No celebration or anything.

Either way, pretty cool stuff. I'll have to look at more of them later.

Yep, I imagine they ran off the field because the game was at Yankee Stadium and crowds back then were allowed to go onto the playing field at the end of the game.

Cardinals' catcher Bob O'Farrell immediately gunned the ball to second baseman Rogers Hornsby. Hornsby reached for the ball, and laid the tag immediately on Ruth. Ruth was called out, and the game was over. Ruth's failed basestealing ended the game and the 1926 World Series; it is, to date, the only time a World Series has ended with a runner being caught stealing

Any footage of that called shot?

Ya, there's a few frames of it somewhere and it's pretty obvious that he's pointing to the Cubs dugout. As the Cubs pitcher at the time said "heck no he didn't point out to centerfield, if he had, I would have laid him on his ass."
