Does anyone outside of this board think he can still play SS?

With his offensive production, who cares?

I'm curious if ARod still wants to play SS. He seems to be pretty vain and I'm not sure if he wants to make that switch, has anyone heard him (ARod) mention this at all?

If he is vain, wouldn't that mean he'd want to return to SS?

When he went to the Yankees, he agreed willingly to switch to 3rd base. If he really wanted to be a Cub and the Cubs could pay him, I'm sure he'd play RF if asked. In fact I bet we'll here some statement to that effect in the near future if for no other reason than to keep the thought of the Cubs being in on the bidding alive.

“Doesn’t make a lot of sense,” said Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry.

Hendry said the Cubs aren’t interested because they have Aramis Ramirez at third base and other priorities.

“He’s a tremendous player. Anybody would love to have him on their ballclub,” Hendry said. “But we feel great about our third baseman and we’ve committed a tremendous amount of money to three or four long-term contracts. And for the needs that we have, as great as he is, we have to address some other issues. And to tie up that much of payroll, when you already have an All-Star at third base, doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

yeah, i wonder who we have to thank for that.

You'd rather not have Lee, Ramirez, or Zambrano? It's not like we have 3 or 4 albatrosses in the way of getting a player like A-Rod. The 4th is probably Lilly and he was worth his contract last year too.

Not necessarily, he may not want to look foolish playing SS after not playing there for awhile.

I'm just curious on what ARod thinks about this. Imo, it will be his decision and not the clubs that want him.

Soriano's name is conspicuous in it's absence.

Oh like you expected me to get it right the first time anyway. I hatehatehate the Soriano contract, but the money was going to get spent on something, and Hendry's point about not getting A-Rod because of financial commitments holds true even if he had gotten Drew instead of Soriano.

It makes a lot of sense to me that he would not want to advertise a preference one way or the other. Bidding wars are fun, and if he really does get close to 350 over 10, I think he'd play catcher.
