Welington Castillo signed on 12/8/2004. I don't know of a catcher in the Cubs system with the last name of Cabrera.

Sorry, I was thinking about Perez and put down Cabrera. That was my bad. Maybe you can help me with Perez instead. Cabrera is a fine pitcher instead of a catcher.

 

I wanted to know if there was any site that listed all of the Cubs signees from foreign lands. A list of all of them from past and present. I have not been able to find one.

 

I read Arizona Phil's writings about our minor leaguers and get real excited about them. And some of them I have no idea when get come into our system. Such as these 2 catchers. I had no idea Castillo had been signed 3 years ago. Arizona Phil seems to be real high on both of them, comparing them to the Molina brothers. Now that is pretty high praise for a catcher if you ask me.

There is no site that I have found that has that type of information for the Cubs. I have compiled a complete list of the Cubs international signings from 2005 and 2006 which is based on what the Cubs have released. I have also cobbled together a list of IFA signings the Cubs have made this year that I know about; this 2007 list certainly isn't complete since it's not from the Cubs but various Internet sources.

 

I have that information on my desktop and will post it tomorrow morning (along with the Carlos Perez information).

The listings are by year, not the traditional signing periods (i.e. the year of 2006 instead of July 2, 2006 - July 1, 2007) because I don't have signing dates nor all the signings in 2007. The 2007 IFA signings are incomplete and just a list I have come up with from various parts of the Internet (I've listed sources for guys who didn't play pro baseball this year). I have also listed bonus information if I know it.

1. Cubs are busy in other parts of the world

 

2. Hope it is not just quantity, but quality as well.

 

Some of these guys I am following and have high hopes for, others I have not heard of yet. But I hope I hear of them in the future, and they make it to Wrigley Field as a star player.

Although it's in some form of local dialect, I can hazard an educated guess: it says 19yr old Dwayne Kemp of the Sparta/Rotterdam team signed with the Cubs. Dwayne is the son of Aruban born Adonis Kemp, (a bit I can't make sense of). Adonis played for a number of years for various teams in the Netherlands, winning three championships there.(the last sentence I can't understand either).

 

If there's anything you want to know about this kid, I can more easily search Dutch sources.

I know he's a RH bat, plays 2b, made his first appearance in the league's first division in 2005 (only four games with Neptunus), played all of 2006 and 2007 there for Sparta/Feyenoord, was selected a number of times for the Dutch national youth side and his dad coaches in the Netherlands after retiring as a player there four years ago.
