If the Cubs can win game three, I'm confident they'll win game 4.

Sadly, I have little confidence in the Cubs winning game 5.

Same here. As long as Rich doesn't blow up like Ted did last night, I feel pretty good about our chances in Wrigley.

Even though we have little chance of doing much against Webb, I want Lilly to get another shot. He's been so good this year and always stepped up to stop a streak. It would be nice if he had a chance to change his legacy for this year, which to many fans right now will be the guy who choked in game 2.

If the Cubs were to somehow able to get into the World Series, they wouldn't do it easily.

I could see us having our backs to the wall just like the Red Sox and coming back to a miracle victory. I would expect the Cubs to do it no other way.

That said: Diamondbacks sweep.

I would actually consider throwing Marquis for Game 3, Hill for Game 4, and Z for Game 5.

Livan is the worst SP for the D'Backs, and he's pitching tomorrow. And either way we have to win 3 games with three different SPs anyway.

Good call. What else do we have to lose?

The '84 Padres looked about as bad as a team could in the first 2 games of the 5 game NLCS that year. Maybe this is the official end of the curse ie- the Cubs make the miracle comeback instead of choking it away.

Call me crazy but I honestly believe we still have a shot! I just can't believe we are getting swept. I refuse to believe we are this bad and the D'Backs are this good.

BTW my Nephew went to the game last night and this is what he wrote:

The D-back fans were so rude. They were yelling like crazy, saying stuff like, "Go back to Chicago," or "Go back to the Windy City or whatever you call it." I seen shirts that said, "The Windy City Blows." A dude made a shirt that said, "1908 was a Fluke." Then after that game people are laughing in my face saying all kinds of stuff. Ive been to a few games and never have i seen anything like this.

Man, this just fires me up!

Sorry for the totally off the topic comment. I have a limited knowledge of german. I was half asleep this morning with VH1 Classic on TV in the backround. They were playing the original version of Nena' 99 Luftballons (or 99 red baloons). English version and german version have totally different lyrics.

What caught my ear was this in german:

99 Jahre Krieg

Liessen keinen Platz fuer Sieger

I knew that 99 Jahre Krieg means 99 years of war (or 99 year war), but litteral translation is kinda salt on the wounds in a WTF coincidence kind of way.

99 years of war

Left no room(place) for the Winners

Anyway... why am I using my brain this early in the morning :)

That's what you get when local media, and the organization itself in this case, makes a big deal about opposing fans coming in. Somehow it gives the home fans the OK to be completely unbearable jerks and bad sports to the point of physical confrontation.

That has been happening for a couple of years now in Cincinnati. This guy named Tracy Jones does the post game show on the Reds flagship station. Whenever the Cubs have been there the last couple of years his whole show is consumed by hatred for Cubs FANS. It was so bad last weekend that several Reds fans called in and told him he was a homer. At any rate, I think that kind of thing in Cincinnati has made a noticeable difference in the way fans act there. I have been watching games there for years and its far worse than its ever been.

Didn't mean to take the thread off topic. I just don't see us winning this series. Our "big three" offensive guys have just been black holes to this point. I don't recall them even moving a runner over, let alone getting a meaningful hit. The pitching could come around if the D-Backs would just return to form, but the offense has been atrocious. I just don't see them getting red hot all of a sudden.

Well the Redsox came back from a 0-3 deficet we can too!!! Now boys and girls can you repeat that after me??

if we're down 0-3 in this series i'll bet that we won't come back.

time to get to work on getting a-rod

With what money? and whose?

I think "getting a-rod" is code speak for "hitting the sauce HARD"

I don't think A-Rod will be avaliable this winter unless we take him down off the cross the NY fans will crucify him on.

They don't have a chance. They're swinging at crap pitches which I expected better plate discipline. It's like they can't even see the top spin of the ball, which makes it break and dive towards the ground.

They're not making great decisions on the pitching either, other than Zambrano.

I expected better than seeing this Mickey Mouse (expleitive). :x

*sigh*

I have a better chance of winning the Powerball lottery than the Cubs do of winning this series. And I haven't even bought a ticket.

Wake me when they do something. I'm still waiting for my team to actually start playing baseball in October.

There's a very good chance ARod will exercise the opt out clause in his contract this offseason and become a free agent.

And, if he does, the Yanks have come out and said that they won't re-sign him. Who knows if that will really be the case, but that's what they came out and said.

During the regular season, the Cubs have won 3 (or more) in a row 11 times. Only twice has that happened against good teams, both times in June. We have not swept a good team all year - the Rockies were only OK at the time. The 11% odds that BP is now sporting for the Cubs chances seem about right.

Call me a glutton for punishment, but I think our level of play will increase at home and we will force a game 5.

Now whether I feel this way tomorrow, that's a different story.

What makes you think there's a very good chance? The Yanks would be idiots to throw away the $21M+ that Texas is paying ARod.

Interesting. Clay's model predicted a CHI/LAA WS going into the playoffs.

What do you mean? If AROD opts out he's a free agent and his previous contract is void. So Texas wouldn't be paying the Yanks anything. Right?

Well, they could work out an extension with ARod and keep the old contract and, thus, keep the Ranger money.

But if ARod thinks he'll get more no the open market and isn't happy in NY (there's reason to believe both), I don't see why he wouldn't opt out.

Since the LDS began in 1995 there have been 48 series. Of those 48 series:

-27 of those 48 teams faced an 0-2 defecit (56%)

-9 of those 27 teams managed to win at least 1 game (33%)

-0 of those 27 teams managed to lose in 5 games (0%)

-4 of those 27 teams came back from down 0-2 to win (15%)

CRAP.

your saying theres a chance? thats all my heart needs-hope. f-hope.
