I was wondering if there was a way to sneak Beltran off the Mets roster somehow? If the GM is feeling pressure, maybe Omar would wilt and make a trade involving Carlos. The Cubs have some good young pitching and that's where they faltered, maybe it's time to take advantage of this situation.

Never happen. I heard from somewhere (cant remember) that his knees are in really bad shape? Anyone else hear this?

Heard it too, but don't have a link. As I recall, the prediction was that he's not long for CF.

If I were a Mets fan, this little snippet of NLCS Game 7 just became a lot more bitter:

Bottom of the 9th, Mets Batting, Behind 1-3, Adam Wainwright facing 7-8-9

Adam Wainwright replaces John Rodriguez pitching and batting 9th

--- 6 J Valentin Single to CF

1-- 3 E Chavez Single to LF; Valentin to 2B

Cliff Floyd pinch hits for Aaron Heilman batting 9th

O 12- 6 C Floyd Strikeout Looking

O 12- 5 J Reyes Lineout: CF

12- 5 P Lo Duca Walk; Valentin to 3B; Chavez to 2B

Anderson Hernandez pinch runs for Paul Lo Duca batting 2nd

O 123 3 C Beltran Strikeout Looking

0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 3 LOB. Cardinals 3, Mets 1.

It's the natural progression.

If Beltran can't play CF then all bets are off. I hope Pie steps up next year and just takes off from there. We're due one hitting prospect to do that after this long of a time.

Even if Beltran can no longer play CF, if he can play RF he would fit.

17 is a lot of money for a guy with his numbers though. At CF he's cost effective but I'm not sure he is at Right.

I'd love to have Beltran, but that salary is a little outrageous when you have Soriano in the same OF. We're starting to hint luxury tax.

Getting Beltran would mean just short of $109M committed to 8 players in 2009 and $96.5M for 7 players in 2010. I'm guessing the Trib is smart enough to know it can't take on another giant contract if it wants to get a good sale price for the Cubs.
