oops...I don't think we were supposed to execute that yet. I have abused my temp commish powers solely granted to set the playoff matchup. I will reverse the trade for now.

For some reason it let me accept the trade, so it went through. If there are any problems, we can reverse it and replay the transaction after the final week of the season.

Since neither party to the trade is still playing I see no harm in letting it go through now and avoid the unnecessary busywork of cancelling and redoing it.

I don't think it's fair that abuck and I can't make trades. I know I'd like to try to trade Beckett, Lackey and/or Sabathia since I can't afford them but with all this movement, it looks like the need for pitching will be eliminated or at least limited before our game is over.

(Granted Beckett, Lackey and/or Sabathia might not interest you and you might prefer Tim's guys, but Beckett, Lackey and/or Sabathia are gamers who came through in the clutch against Tim's guys. Why wouldn't you want them?)

Willing to trade Johan, but it will take an absolute stud exempt arm
In other words, Marquis for Santana isn't what you have in mind. :D

I can undo the trade if everyone believes that trades should not be made prior to the end of the season.

I thought the other trade was finished, and I just accepted an offer that was made to me.

But, I did want to accept it immediately in case Tim changed his mind. :D

And for the record, I did send a PM to Abuck letting him know that I can still take on points if he was willing to trade a particular player.

I don't know what you have to offer right now, but I'll probably hold off on my last deal until the offseason is over and wait for the best offers.

Well, if no one else is opposed to it then I guess I don't have much say in the trading.

As I said in the other thread, everyone is available (though you're going to have to blow my mind to have a chance at Lincecum or Loney). That includes: Josh Beckett, John Lackey, CC Sabathia, Javy Vasquez, Vlad Guerrero, Carlos Lee and Jorge Posada amongst others.

I think it's fine to negotiate trades now (which was my intent), but they shouldn't be finalized until (at earliest) Monday.

That way you guys have an equal shot at negotiation right now without disrupting your teams during the playoffs.

i still think we're at a slight disadvantage with regard to negotiating because i haven't even put any thought into the offseason...and the roster deadline is a month and a half earlier this year. that being said, i don't think we can put a gag order on negotiations, so go nuts.

however, when tim and raw are selling you on their guys, remember there are players on two teams that beat tim and raw that you could be trading for. :D

I think it's earlier than that. For this year I believe we had until Valentine's Day. I'm not sure why the deadline was moved up so much, but I don't like it. It doesn't give much time for making decisions and working out trades following the end of the season. I want to be able to spend October thinking more about the Cubs in postseason rather than Roadkill for next year. I'd also like to be able to see what happens over the winter (with respect to MLB trades and free agent signings); that could easily affect our decisions since they can have an impact on who will and will not be MLB starters next year.

Now that Juan's back, is there a reason that the deadline was moved back up to Halloween? It was Valentine's Day this year, and personally I thought that worked better because it gave people longer to work out trades and see what happens during the MLB off-season. I know that my time in October will be limited, given work during the week, a couple of weekends I'll be away on travel, and focusing on the Cubs in post-season. With the scheduling change the World Series may not even be over by Halloween. If Valentine's Day is too late, would there at least be a possibility of moving it back until around Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Valentine's Day would be fine if that's what people prefer.
