I was wondering what people of the Jewish faith think of Ryan Braun for playing on Yom Kippur. I'm not Jewish and not sure what the opinion of him was.

I think it's classless... I don't care how many games ahead or back you are, you don't play on Yom Kippur... anyone know If Marquis was even at Wrigley today? I wonder if Shawn Green is in Florida for the Mets game? I see he's not in the lineup.

This whole thing makes me hate Ryan Braun even more

and yes, I am Jewish

I'm just gonna go out there and say that maybe Braun isn't very religious?

Neither am I but I would not play if I was a baseball player

Edit:

Wiki:

* Braun is Jewish. "It's something that draws a lot of interest and something I take pride in," Braun said.[47] His father, Joe, is Israeli-born,[48] and immigrated to the United States at the age of 7.[49] Braun is one of the highest-drafted Jewish ballplayers in the history of professional baseball. The New York Yankees made Ron Blomberg the number one pick in the 1967 draft. Braun was considered the best Jewish minor league baseball prospect in 2006.[50]

* "Braun" was, coincidentally, the family name of Sandy Koufax, until his mother remarried and he took his step-father's name. "There's no (family) connection that I know of," Ryan Braun said, "but it's kind of cool."[51]

* Braun lived for a time with his maternal grandfather in a house that previously belonged to Jewish Hall of Fame outfielder Hank Greenberg.[52] Braun's grandfather has lived in the house for over 40 years.[53]

Pardon my Jewish ignorance but are you not suppose to work on Yom Kippur?

You are really not supposed to do anything but pray at synagogue and ask for forgiveness from God but I'll admit I watched the Cubs. :)

Also, I remember Steve Stone taking Yom Kippur off

Pray for forgiveness and hope God is a Cubs fan.

Ok, just wondering if it is worse than Christians that play on Easter. Which it sounds like.

Quietly. Chipper Jones has had a better season than Prince Fielder and my vote for NL MVP, Matt Holliday.

He was hurt a lot, otherwise the Braves would probably be in 1st and he would be the runaway MVP winner.

He's probably proud of his Jewish ancestry/heritage and the cultural side, but could give two craps about religion.

Most of my Jewish friends (note my location, LOL) are pretty much this way.

I'm pretty happy that Sam Fuld chose to work on Yom Kippur

:D Wow I didn't know he was jewish... I'm still against him playing but I'm glad he did

Ever look at him. Clearly looks it.

BTW, Smoltz is on today.

He's only half Jewish and doesn't generally celebrate the Jewish hollidays so its really no big deal.

As for MVP, Holliday's splits are too crazy to win it just like Tulo's are too crazy for him to win ROY. He has an .854 OPS on the road and over a 1.100 at home.
