Given Larussa's pension for having his batters throw at our players, his ability to harass the opposing pitcher, I thing "Z" will last about 4 innings before he loses his cool. Also as he stews on the mound the ump will start squeezing the plate, I notice they have started doing that more lately to "Z" , they don't want to be seen as cow-towing to a tempermential pitcher, "Z" is his own worse enemy.

12 innings

he'll give up 0 hits, 0 runs, have 35 strikeouts (the only remaining out made by his unbeleivable dive on a line drive by pujols in the 4th inning) and hit the game winning grand slam in the top of the 12th

cubs win 4-0

I think he's going to have a big game tonight. He seems to always pitch well against St. Louis. Cubs win this game 5-1.

JJ is going yard.

I think Z will keep his temper in check. There are going to be several players and coaches, I suspect, that will be ready to stop him if necessary. Moreover, Carlos has been very dominant against the Cards for the past three years. In fact, for the past three years Carlos has pitched more innings against the Cards than any other team. This season, the Cards are hardly doing well against him, posting a line of .209/.282/.335/.617 against him. If there's one team that Carlos owns, it's the Cardinals.

I'm sure that LaRussa will try some silly garbage -- he always does -- but the key is not to let it get to you, whether you are Lee, Zambrano, or any other regular starter. If Wainwright throws at Ramirez, wait until Zambrano has left the game to respond. Then use Gallagher or some other non-critical pitching piece to plunk Pujols in the behind. LaRussa loves the "mental" games, but the game is won on the field -- not by winning the mental games.

Frankly, the Cards are on the ropes this weekend. Eliminate them.

I'm far more concerned with him managing his PC than his temper tonight. If he keeps it under check I'd expect 7 or possibly 8 innings.

Exactly, the fact that he is going to have 3 days rest leads me to believe Lou won't make him throw much more than 100 pitches.

It's funnier as cow-towing.

I agree. I was trying to think of how one would understand cow-towing as a gesture of respect.

I agree with everything here except for Jones. Strikes out twice and grounds into at least one DP.

On 3 days rest his pitches probably will have more movement that they normally would.

I'm not sure where the 3 day rest idea comes from, since he hasn't pitched since last Saturday. With 5 days of rest, and his better effort last time out, I'm hoping more for him being over a dead arm period and back to his June-July form the rest of the way.

He has a .365/.441/.619 line against the Cardinals in his career, a .462/.533/.615 line alltime against Wainwright, and a .458/.519/.583 line in his last 7 days. Anything could happen because it's one game, but all the splits would point to him likely having a good game.

Uhh, Z's on 5 days rest, not 3.

ETA: I shoulda read Sooner's post more carefully.
