And this is to help the Smokies in the playoffs? I can't see Sean deserving a demotion especially this late in the season.

To me helping for the playoffs is the only logical explanation; Tennessee is all but in and Iowa is out. I don't think Hart is deserving of a demotion either; in fact he has been mentioned as a possible surprise callup when rosters expand.

Im assuming this is because of Iowas season almost being over? However I would expect Gallagher up this weekend, and there are rumors about Hart coming up as well.

They wouldn't necessarily be up that quickly. Just because rosters expand on Sept. 1 doesn't mean that all callups are made immediately. It's common to call players up after the minor league season ends, which for Tennessee will be later due to almost certainly being in the playoffs.

I understand that I was just saying that I think Gallagher can help our pen now as the long man, which is why Id want him up this weekend.

Hello but nobody "bit" on my post yesterday about the Smokies rotation. This is actually a good move for Sean and Kevin due to the fact that with the Smokies in the play-offs they will actually get to start more. You have to remember that the Cubs play a DH on Sept 15th and they also may want to give somebody a rest down the stretch.

Yeah, that's the biggest thing. The Cubs need one of these guys to spot start in a couple weeks. The best way for them to keep their arms stretched out is for them to keep starting, and that's in Tennessee.

As for Gallagher helping the Cubs as the long man, there will be plenty of pitchers to eat innings for the Cubs if they need them. When you have 15 pitchers on the squad, there isn't much need for a long man.

According to a post in Baseball Discussions Gallagher, Ohman, Cedeno, Patterson, and Soto have been called up. Apparently the plan to keep Gallagher stretched out by pitching in the postseason for Tennessee was deemed no longer necessary due to the Trachsel trade.

Gallagher has had quite a journey through the system this year: Tennessee to Chicago to Iowa to Chicago to Iowa to Tennessee to Chicago.
