I am going to post this here away from the hysteria. That's a pretty risky proposition but I don't see that the Cubs had any choice. Developing pitchers and keeping them healthy is so key to winning in MLB these days.

I'm happy with the deal, despite the strong chance that Zambrano is injured for at least 1 of those 5 years and probably not worthy of the money in at least the last year of that deal.

 

The Cubs really have nothing in the minors like they did when Z came up. There's no Prior, Wood, Cruz, or the potential of the great draft picks (Sisco, Jones, Petrick, etc) anymore. Unless they traded him before July 31, for good younger pitching, they had no choice but to sign him to whatever he wanted. I'm happy it's just 5 years.
