At the top, I'd go right back to what was working a month ago:

Soriano

Theriot

Lee

Ramirez

5 thru 8 goes:

Jones CF (vs RHP)/Murton RF (vs LHP)

DeRosa 2B

Murton RF (vs RHP)/Jones CF (vs LHP)

Kendall C

Pitcher

Theriot

Lee

Soriano

Ramirez

Jones/Murton

DeRosa

Pie/Murton

Kendall

You want Murton to play center  :?:

Yeah I also want him to bat in 2 batting order positions in the same game.

In fairness, that was pretty confusing. I assume you mean JJ in CF and Murton in RF or Pie in CF and Murton in RF. So you'd have Murton play every day, but JJ and Pie platoon in CF? Odd.

Or Jones in RF and Pie in CF. Playing the matchups, as far as when you want your best defense(Pie/Jones), best offense (Jones/Murton), vs. a lefty(Pie/Murton)

Right, so like I said, confusing.

Jones has been too good in the 2 spot to move.

this is true...

plus if soriano really were to be moved to the one of the middle spots, i really like the idea of a RH and then LH 1 2 punch...followed by a nasty middle order...i think it would be effective...i would trust pie to hit in the 2 hole as well, but i don't think lou will

So, what should the usual lineup be when Soriano and Aramis return.

With the second legf injury by Sori, I'm concerned about his speed.

This would be my lineup.

Theriot SS

Murton RF

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Soriano LF

DeRosa 2B

Kendall C

Jones/Pie CF

Pitcher

Any ideas/changes?

I'd pretty much go with that exact lineup. I might swap Kendall and Murton if Kendall continues to get on base the way he has, but probably not.

Jones has been hot in the 2-spot, but I don't expect that to last (not this hot, anyway). If/when he starts to cool off, go with Pie in CF everyday and, depending on how Murton is playing, give Jones some starts in RF.

I think we can all agree that the Cubs would be better off with Soriano batting in the middle of the lineup and playing RF. Since Lou has made it perfectly clear that Soriano is going to bat leadoff and play LF, I don't understand why we should even discuss it.

because we can, that's my guess.

You're probably right that Soriano will be in LF and leading off when he returns, but Lou hasn't exactly stuck to everything he's said this year, so it's not a guarantee.

At this point it looks silly to me to have Lee batting behind Soriano. Lee has great OBP but not so much power anymore, while Soriano has poor OBP and the most power on the team. Soriano is also going to be hobbling on the basepaths for the rest of the year. It's obvious that Soriano should be driving in Lee and not vice versa.

I am just so happy we have at least one of our main offensive producers back in the line-up... assuming he is in the line-up tonight!

These have been some very good lineups we've put out there.

There is no such thing as a very good Chicago Cubs lineup. They were average, at best, with a healthy Soriano and Ramirez, and that's exactly what they'll be if they get both back.

You'll be an all-star in no time

Bottom line, Theriot should be the new everyday leadoff hitter, at least until Soriano can start stealing bases with ease again. I'd also feel safer defensively with Floyd in left instead of right, even though it would give Soriano less chances for an outfield assist.
