anyone know soto's catcher's era and how about his defensive skills? We all know Piniella loves defensive catchers and based on soto's offensive numbers that is the only excuse I can think of as to why he is not with the big club. What did Soto do when he was with the cubs earlier in the year?

He's got a good rep defensively.

In both 2004 & 2005 Soto was ranked the best Cubs defensive catcher by Baseball America. Not sure about 2006, but 2007's best defensive catcher is some idiot named Jake Muyco who plays for Daytona. His offensive line is .186/.240/.240/.480 this year. I swear the Cubs will probably bring up this bozo before Soto.

Anyways...

1B G. Soto 2/3, R, 2 2B (26), 5 RBI, BB

Today's performance gets 2/2 Geo's sliding in to Hendry's dumb head.

Muyco is definitely better defensively than Soto. No need to call him names.

Mesa is knotted up at 3 in extras (Cliff Andersen is 4/5 and a home run shy of the cycle). All the other boxes are posted, though.

IowaCubs.com"]Soto swamps RedHawks

August 13, 2007

Geovany Soto went 2-for-3 with a season-high five RBIs as visiting Iowa pounded Oklahoma, 10-2, on Monday.

Soto lifted a sacrifice fly in the first inning and smacked a two-run double and scored in the second before ripping another two-RBI two-bagger in the sixth. The 24-year-old first baseman collected five RBIs twice in 2003 for Daytona.

Mike Mahoney went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and Buck Coats and Sam Fuld each scored twice for the Cubs (69-54).

Iowa starter Les Walrond (9-4) allowed a run on five hits while striking out two and walking one in five innings for the win.

Kevin West went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, his eighth, and Desi Relaford was 3-for-3 for the RedHawks (59-61).

Oklahoma starter Robinson Tejeda (1-3) gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on four hits and four walks while fanning two in two frames. --Steve Conley/MLB.com

PeoriaChiefs.com"]Chiefs Fall 10-0

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs saw their five game winning streak come to an abrupt end in a 10-0 loss on Monday night against visiting Kane County at O’Brien Field. The loss drops the Chiefs to 29-21 in the second half and keeps them in the Wild Card spot by 2 ½ games over Kane County and Burlington.

Kane County got off to a quick start against Chiefs starter Al Alburquerque in the first inning. Michael Massaro hit an opposite field double to the gap in left center and moved to third on a wild pitch. After issuing a walk to Jermaine Mitchell, Alburquerque threw the ball away on an attempted pick off play to first that allowed Massaro to score the games first run. Greg Dowling followed with an RBI single to score Mitchell to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. The Cougars added to their lead with a two-run homer to right by Sean Doolittle to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Cougars added to their lead in the third inning against Chiefs reliever Michael Bartek. After walking the lead off hitter Alex Valdez, Bartek gave up a base hit to Matt Smith to put two on with one out. Bartek then issued his second walk of the inning to Joshua Horton to load the bases with two outs. Still with the bases loaded, Bartek issued the third walk of the inning to make it 5-0. Michael Massaro reached on an infield hit that allowed another run to score to make it 6-0. Mitchell added a two run double down the left field line drive in two and give Kane County 8-0 advantage.

Nate Samson picked up the first base hit for the Chiefs in the third inning after Cougar’s starter Trevor Cahill sent down the first eight batters he faced. Darwin Barney was hit by a pitch and Jim Adduci singled to load the bases. Derek Schermerhorn struck out looking to end the inning and strand the bases loaded.

The Cougars offense got to the Chiefs bullpen for two more runs in the sixth inning. Bartek walked Valdez with one out and Doolittle followed with a double to left center to score Valdez to make it 9-0. Chris Siegfried replaced Bartek and a ball got away from Wellington Castillo that allowed Horton to score to make it 10-0.

Alburquerque took the loss and lasted just two innings in his first start since April 21st with the Chiefs. He allowed four runs on four hits while walking three and striking out one. Bartek worked three innings of relief and allowed six runs on five hits. He walked a season high six batters and struck out one. Siegfried was the lone bright spot on the night for the Chiefs. He worked 2 1/3 innings of shut out ball while allowing just one hit and struck out six. Matt Maradeo pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Gorman’s Pub Player of the Game: Chris Siegfried (P) - Siegfried tossed 2 1/3 innings of perfect relief. Coming into the night, Siegfried had struck out five batters in his first three appearances with the Chiefs. He finished the night with six strikeouts and allowed just one hit and issued one walk.

Playoff Watch: The top two teams in the division excluding Beloit and Clinton will make the playoffs. With 20 games remaining, the Chiefs are in the Wild Card spot, 2 ½ game behind Quad Cities who beat Fort Wayne 5-2 on Monday night. The Chiefs are now 2 ½ games up on both Kane County and Burlington in the Wild Card race. The Chiefs have three games (all at home) left against Kane County and two at Quad Cities. The Wild Card team will play Beloit in the first round while the Second Half Champion will play Clinton.

BoiseHawks.com"]Hawks Clobber Bears, 12-3

The Boise Hawks played Mondaly night like everybody thought they could play and the Yakima Bears paid the price. The Hawks hammered out 18 hits in beating the Bears, 12-3. Ty Wright led the attack with four hits, including a home run and a pair of doubles. Jonathan Wyatt had three hits, extending his league-high hitting streak to 21 games, and drove in four runs. Mark Sawyer had three hits and Tony Thomas extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a pair of hits.

But that's not all.

Zach Ashwod pitched five strong innings for his third win of the season and Jordan Latham finished with four strong innings to pick up his first save of the season. The duo limited the Bears to three runs on seven hits and neither issued a walk. Ashwod had four strike outs and Latham had two.

The win keeps the Hawks in the hunt for first place in the Eastern Division of the Northwest League.

Sorry I just got caught up a little bit there. Props to Muyco. But I'm a moneyball catcher guy.
