Cubs announcers mention that they can't say any roster moves are impending, but surprisingly (nod, nod, wink, wink) Jake Fox and Carmen Pigniatelo are not in the I-Cubs lineup tonight.

I wonder what the corresponding moves are.

I'd have to guess Epatt is on his way back down. Pigniatelo isn't on the 40-man, so there would have to be another 40-man move. I'm guessing Blanco hits the 60-day DL, since according to Cubs.com he's still only on the 15-day DL.

Are there any prospects who haven't been put on the 40-man roster at this point? This is getting ridiculous.

Yeah, it seemed like everywhere you look, Piggy was going to be the guy added after Ohman went down.

Bruce said Blanco already was placed on the 60-day DL when EPatt was added to the 40-man. I missed that move, but I'll definitely take Bruce Miles' word on the matter.

Yeah, I remember Bruce saying that Blanco was already on the 60-day, but cubs.com still says he's on the 15-day. I'm guessing it's an error on cubs.com. It will be interesting to see what the corresponding move will be tomorrow.

Also, still wondering what Soto has to do to get called up. Even if it is to backup Kendall, there's no reason for Soto not to be up. Hill is garbage.

The other advantage to DFA'ing Hill and promoting Soto is that it would free up another 40 man spot.

As for all the prospects on the 40 man roster, I don't see a problem with it as most I would assume would probably be Rule 5 eligible next year anyway so they were going to have to be added or potentially lost.

EPatt and Gallagher wouldn't have been eligible this offseason, but the rest (Fontenot, Hill, Petrick and Pignatiello would have been eligible - am I missing someone?) were Rule 5 eligible.

I have to guess that Z's relationship with Koyie Hill is helping Hill a lot.

EPatt was one callup that cost a 40-man. He wouldn't have needed to be rostered till after 2008.

Fox up for Eric, that would be fine. Who cares, neither is likely to get more than 1 AB per series, and neither is likely to get any hits.

Pigs, that's more odd. Gallagher stunk the other night, try a new face? That doesn't seem to make sense, since Pigs has been a very short guy this year, even if he was long previously. Eyre stunk the other night, dump him? That could make some sense, although Lou has seemed pretty committed to Eyre and Hendry seems pretty unable to dump that guaranteed contract, for Trib reasons or whatever. Maybe Kerry, he'd been throwing over 90 mph for perhaps as many as ten outings between his rehab and Cub time, so with his sub-90's velocity yesterday perhaps a fair chance his shoulder has taken as much as it could stand and he's ready to return to the DL?

I can see that(Wood scenario) as very possible. I guess we will know soon enough.

soto has double and a sac fly... he's hitting .477 this month with a 1.350 OPS

OK - who is the wise guy quoting OPS to Carrie?

How can the Cubs keep Soto in the Minors right now? Soto is hitting the cover off the ball, with an OPS of 1.021.

She brings it right back down to the important measurables

The Cubs are very much aware of Soto's numbers (he was hitting .353 with 20 homers and 84 RBIs through Saturday).

Can't fool her with your fancy boy stats!

Not to mention...

You may not like Hill, but he's a good match with Carlos Zambrano, and the Cubs have a 16-8 record when he's behind the plate.

I'm wondering if this one time Bruce was mistaken; it just doesn't make sense otherwise. Not only is he listed on the roster as being on the 15-day DL (as you point out), but none of the transactions show him being transferred to the 60-day DL, while the transactions do show other players being transferred. Plus, if he is on the 60-day DL the 40-man roster would only be at 39, which in turn would mean it was unnecessary to deroster Dopirak and take the slight risk of someone else claiming him on waivers. To me all of this suggests the rare case of Bruce being off (perhaps he was thinking of Guzman rather than Blanco; Guzman was transferred around that time).

BB for Soto, 3 RBI's on the night on the double and sac fly as truffle mentioned.

His numbers are insane. No logical reason to keep the terrible Hill over him, none.

Al Alburquerque had a rough first start back with Peoria - poor control once again hurts him in a bad outing.

another 2-RBI double... now he's at 2 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 1 sac fly on the night

hmmm, is this box wrong?

I'm pretty sure it is because I swear I saw it say 3 RBI while the game was still in action.

anyone know soto's catcher's era and how about his defensive skills? We all know Piniella loves defensive catchers and based on soto's offensive numbers that is the only excuse I can think of as to why he is not with the big club. What did Soto do when he was with the cubs earlier in the year?

He's got a good rep defensively.
