Carmen Pignietello and Clay Rapada

Why is it that these 2 have quietly been 2 of the best minor league relievers in the Cubs system for 2 years now, yet Pignietello has never even made the 40 man, and Rapada got sent down after 1 batter. Meanwhile guys like Petrick, Cherry, and before that Roberto Novoa keep getting moved up and down? Get Ohman the hell out of town and give Pignietello a shot.

Supposedly when Gallagher was added to the 40-man, the decision came down to Piggy and Sean. Between that and the invite to the AFL last fall, Piggy is definitely on the Cubs radar. I am almost positive he is in the 2nd year of a 3 year deal.

Actually I have been on record as saying that I really liked Marmol as an option out of the bullpen, rather than the starting rotation. Rapada could possibly be a situational lefty. Pignatiello's stuff is fringy, and he might be more of a AAAA pitcher whose stuff just isn't quite good enough to be effective against major league hitters.

And they will be cheap options opposed to pricey veterans. I should restate, i hope they are viable options for us to use. Rapada will be a decent left specialist, Cherry can be that guy who bounces from AAA to the big league team, Piggy deserves a shot, and i think his stuff is good enough to pitch at the next level.
