The critical flaw with this question is that it is too simplified in this format. The trades available all depend on the cost and how much it would actually help.

Should they have made a trade? Sure, if it helped the team and did not absolutely clean out the system, or even take too many top prospects. Should they have made a trade for the sake of making a trade? Hell no.

I agree. If Krivsky was demanding Pie, Gallagher and Murton (at least) for Dunn or the three-way swap that would have netted us Renteria, I'm glad Jim held off.

I'm still disappointed something didn't get done, though.

I agree a yes-no poll is too limiting. He did just use the same responses as provided for the cubs.com poll (as have I in the past).

We still need a starting pitcher. If not that, then at least a big bat. So yes.

We have one of the best pitching staffs in the league. Our offense is what's lacking.

Edit: and I agree, this poll is way too limiting. We shouldn't have made a trade just to make a trade. But if the right deal was available and we didn't pull the trigger, well, that speaks for itself.

I think a better question should have been:

Did the Cubs need to make a trade at the deadline?

Of course, as I've said before. We don't know what was on the table and what the asking prices were. It makes it really tough to evaluate the market when everything is behind closed doors.
