The Texas Rangers GM showed what to do with a team that wasn't going to contend for the next 14 months. He has stockpiled enough young talent to make them contenders for 2009-2010. Kenny Williams take note.

I wouldn't be heaping praise on Daniels yet.

He's made some really boneheaded moves before this trade.

Far be it from me to defend KW, but he has proven to be a very good trader, not afraid to take risks. Also, if a Salty, Andrus, et. al. deal were offered, KW probably would have given Atlanta anyone on the Sox's 40-man.

If only the two had recently made a trade...

Danks 6-7 - 4.83 ERA - 108 IP

McCarthy 4-7 - 5.52 ERA - 76.2 IP

Danks is also younger, cheaper, left handed and under White Sox control for more years. Plus, KW got Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner as well.

I think Williams showed Daniels how to stockpile young talent right in his face.

Are you kidding me Gabbard is a stud.

A stud with a 4.07 minor league ERA and a 1.35 minor league WHIP. Generally speaking, it's best not to analyze a player's value based on one month in the big leagues.

The bottom line is that neither the Rangers or the White Sox have any hope in 2008. Daniels gave the Rangers hope for 2009-2010, while the White Sox look like losers for the next few years. The White Sox could have had some excellent prospects by trading Garland or Vasquez, Konerko, and Dye.
