General manager Jim Hendry put an end to speculation that the Cubs would deal their top prospect, telling reporters before Monday's game against Philadelphia that he has no intention of dealing Pie.

"Felix Pie has never been talked about," Hendry said. "He's not going anywhere in any deal. There will be no trade of Felix Pie to anyone."

Hendry was referring to speculation that Pie would be dealt to Texas in a package deal. He said he has not spoken to Texas general manager Jon Daniels about a trade.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella said he's OK with the roster he has. "We're comfortable with what we have," he said.

I'm happy about Pie staying put, but this makes me think we are not going to add anything.

I posted this in the Pie thread, but perhaps it deserves its own, because no one was paying attention. Edited by muntjack

No one should be posting any more rumors about the cubs or anything. NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN FOR US THIS TRADE DEADLINE.

I won't relay any rumors if you promise to stop telling people not to post on a message board. deal?

I highly doubt my measly little post will bring an end to numerous posts in the Transaction forum, take it easy bud.

I'll bet something happens for us by the trade deadline.

We'll be in first place.

I've never wanted a big, exciting rumor more, and for as many reasons ;)

Maybe Hendry himself planted the rumors so he could later debunk them and make fans happy with nothing happening. :D

Its sad that he would have to use misinformation to appease his fans rather than to get deals done. I know you were joking, but it could be true. If he made a decision to stand pat, its better to address the media to say this.

Of course most likely it was just Sullivan speaking out of his behind.

Also of interest from that blog:

Piniella also said Kerry Wood's rehab outing at Double-A Tennessee on Tuesday would be his last one, and that he'd be on the Cubs roster either Wednesday or Thursday.

For the better, I would imagine.

I would kinda like to see him face AAA batters, but if he's healthy and feeling good and his velocity is up, let's get what we can out of him for if/when he dies again.

I think Cherry would be the logical one to go down (barring any trades before the deadline, that is).
