For those hoping for Griffey:

It appears that future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. will not be leaving the Cincinnati Reds in the near future.

Several major league scouts say the team is not offering Griffey in any trade talks, and if Reds GM Wayne Krivsky is trying to deal Griffey by the July 31 deadline, he hasn't asked Griffey or his agent, Brian Goldberg, for permission.

They are just fooling us.

Plus I would rather have a SP or a RP.

If Pie is traded, it really better be Dunn or someone of equal impact, or I will be angry.

It better be for something better than a 2.5 month rental.

I hope that means Tex. Also, if he hasn't asked for permission, how is it so widely known that the Cubs are an acceptable place of destination?

FYI, Dusty was talking on BBT and an e-mailer asked if Dye would be a Cub. Dusty said no, no, no. Then he said it would be Griffey Jr.

I wouldn't do Dunn for Pie straight up, as a Reds fan.

I have no idea what we would do with Pie and Kroeger either. Only thing I can think of is Votto to LF, Pie in CF, and Kroeger at 1B.

We still have Conine and Hatteberg as well.

Well then I guess Griffey isn't coming here now.

They aren't "offering" him, that doesn't mean they aren't listening to offers. And as far as cincy not asking for junior's permission on a trade, he has already reportedly given a list of teams he would like to play for. The cubs were on that list.

He's said he would accept a deal to Chicago or Atlanta, despite what the article said.

Maybe the guy had the Dunn to Chicago thing right on Tuesday, but I doubt it.

This is a pretty solid argument against it being Griffey.

well, I'm convinced we aren't getting Griffey then

I'm sold, Dusty said it's Griffey.

My point was we still have to move those guys.

Hatteberg is very underrated. I'd love to have him on the Cubs.

Who here would trade Pie for Dunn straight up?

Reds44 said that he would not for Dunn and I'm riding the fence. It would be a big loss IMO if we couldn't sign Dunn long term. If we sign him long term then I'm OK with it, but with the ownership change I'm not confident that we could.

Agreed with that sentiment. We'd need to be confident we could resign Adam.

Quick question, is there any chance this means absolutely nothing? No callup, no trade, nothing? Because that seems hard to believe.
