Good target. Not a free agent until after 2009.

I don't see this as a good thing. How many of these utility types do we need on the roster? He's arby-eligible after this season, meaning he'll probably be looking at a raise into the $5M range. If we're collecting Ty Wigginton for the future then we might as well just give away Eric Patterson, since he'll have no shot at making the roster. And then you have a moderately-expensive player putting up numbers similar to a guy who could do it for less than 10% of the price. Unless you're the Yankees, bad idea.

we could always trade him when we're done with him this season, assuming hendry/lou wants him as a righty bench option for the stretch run.

if the price is right, i'm in favor of getting ty.

I'd imagine we'd non-tender him. Thats what the rays will do if they dont trade him. Strike that....a SMART team would non-tender him. A team who loves to overpay for the bench (like the cubs) would probably love him as a corner IF/OF guy.

I'm not saying they don't ask for a lot in trades, but wasn't that thought based on Chuck LaMar, who is no longer the general manager?

Yeah thats correct. Although the Rays are really in a position of strength here as supposedly there are multiple teams that are pretty into Wiggy even though they'll probably non-tender him in the offseason.

for what it's worth, ty has a career .278/.350/.488 line against lefties

If we get him, we need to be patient: his career OPS in August: .661 ----------- in Sept.: .903

But yeah, we need all the help we can get against lefties.

Edited to add if it's him or Conine it's a no-brainer.

He's okay, but I'm not sure that he's much better than Scott Moore

he is a very good player. that would be a nice pickup

I agree... he could play Right against lefties and backup 1st and also provide some power off the bench which we don't have.

However, he would become useless to one of my fantasy teams... yes, it's a deep league.

That would be a nice pickup, but he's not a very good player.
