I dunno guys, I think it was pretty obvious that Jones was going to heat up at some point. He's a decent ballplayer. I've been saying this for a while now, am I lucky or a genius?
One of the things I've noticed is that he seems to be laying off pitches he use to swing at. I think he actually walked twice the other day (1st game in Stl.). The other thing is his BABIP is currently at .286 for the season but I don't know what it is for July. It is probably much higher, whether it is sustainable is anybody's guess.

he's definitely not as bad as he was earlier this year, but I still don't like how his power has evaporated. He sure as crap isn't an OBP machine, so the biggest benefit was that you could rely on him for somewhere around 25 HRs and roughly a .175-.200 IsoP. If he can't start hitting for power, that bat is going to be awfully anemic with a more normal BABIP.

He'll regress from this hot streak, as the BABIP shows, but putting up his career averages from here on out doesn't appear to be a risky prediction.

Appears risky to me.

.278/.327/.454 with an OPS+ of 100 the rest of the way doesn't seem anywhere close to a lock. He's done worse in 3 of the last 4 years and 6 of his 9 seasons.

also, two home runs to this point in the season isn't encouraging.

Yeah, it's not like this hot streak has come with a burst of power. I've seen several weak hit balls just find holes. He'd have to really up the pace of HR in order to flirt with his career numbers.

I guess I hadn't considered the complete lack of power on his part during this hot streak. Hopefully, for his and the team's sake, he starts to hit the ball a little/lot harder. I was thinking that he would continue in the hitting and OBP categories without much consideration for the SLG. My fault.

On a tangent, I just don't understand the overall power outtage by the Cubs this year, Ramirez and to a lesser extent Soriano aside. Lee is way down, Jones is down, Barrett was down. When that's coupled with the fact that we have a light-hitting middle infield and almost no power from our other outfield spot, I'm surprised that we've scored as many runs as we have.

even soriano is on track to have his lowest total since 2001. Lee I understand, because of the wrist injury last year. But yeah, Jones and Soriano aren't at a point in their careers where I'd expect their power numbers to nosedive.
