23.63 ERA in Linebrink's last 7 games.

On a side note, the Reds tried to deal Kearns for him last season.

While the Padres got the better end long-term, this still makes the current Brewers team better.

And that's bad for us.

FYI, Inman ranked #3 on the BA prospect list for the Brewers, behind only Gallardo and Braun.

Will Inman, RHP

Born: Feb. 6, 1987 • B-T: R-R • Ht: 6-0 • Wt: 200

Drafted: HS--Dry Fork, Va., 2005 (3rd round) • Signed by: Grant Brittain

Background: After leading Tunstall High to back-to-back Virginia state titles and setting the state record for strikeouts, Inman spurned an Auburn commitment to sign for $500,000. He followed a strong pro debut in 2005 by posting the second-best ERA in the minors. He didn't give up a run in 15 of his 23 outings at low Class A West Virginia.

Strengths: Inman isn't overpowering, but he can consistently command his 89-92 mph fastball for strikes in any part of the zone. He stays ahead in the count and complements his fastball with a two-plane slurve that he's trying to develop into a more conventional curveball. He began using his changeup more last season. He is a fiery competitor.

Weaknesses: Inman missed a month last season with a sore shoulder, perhaps because he three too many breaking balls. He has eliminated much of the effort in his delivery and stayed on a straighter line to the plate, mechanical adjustments the Brewers hope will relieve some stress on his arm. He's not projectable and probably won't develop plus velocity, and he needs to refine his secondary pitches.

The Future: Any worries Milwaukee had about Inman's sore shoulder were quieted when he didn't allow an earned run in his first five outings after coming off the disabled list. He has the stuff and aggressiveness to move quickly, and he'll pitch at high Class A Brevard County as a 20-year-old.

I heard his name floated around in Dunn rumors.

Why they gave him up for Linebrink, I have no idea.

It makes the Brewers better, but marginally so. In fact the difference may be altogether negligible.

What they needed was a SP.

With their bullpen the way it is now, I'm not really sure they do.

Especially with Gallardo pitching while Sheets is on the DL.

Regardless of the SP issue, acquiring Linebrink seems rather pointless. It even seems stupid, considering what they gave up to get him, and his road numbers.

Linebrink has been horrible on the road.

that's only this year.... last year he was fine on the road, and 2 years ago he was lights out. He's been one of the better middle relievers in baseball. It's a good pickup for the Brewers, but they had to pay a pretty steep price in Inman.

Could this be a precursor to the Dye for Turnbow rumor from a couple days ago?

I have no idea why the Brewers would find it necessary to add to the offense.

Same here, just throwing it out there since (I think) Rosenthal said it was a rumor.

Yeah, trading top prospects to get Linebrink so they could trade Turnbow for Dye seems like an awfully circuitous way to accomplish pretty much nothing.

On a related note...does this make SanDiego worse THIS year? If so, that's also good for us.

A little bit maybe, but not much. The Padres pen will still be the best in the league, in all likelihood.

not likely. Hoffman is still very good obviously, and Cla Meredith is a good pitcher. Heath Bell is mediocre but is having a career year, Doug Brocail is mediocre and 87 years old, Kevin Cameron isn't likely to keep up a 0.52 ERA with a WHIP of 1.24 (!!!), and Justin Hampson's K-rate is too low. The only way they have the best pen in the league is with a lot of luck.

The Padres fans on the web seem overall okay with this trade. On the one hand, they appreciate what he's done for the team during his stint there. On the other hand, he's apparently been decidedly mediocre this season and has been on the trade block for awhile.

Don't really think Milwaukee needs to do this unless this preludes to a Turnbow for Dye deal.

That sort of deal needs to be stopped....

Why? Dye has been less than spectacular this year.
