Linecum is an absolute stud. If he can stay healthy, he will have a great, great career.

Giants really have something to build on with Lowry, Linecum, and Cain.

Too bad everyone else is in their 30's.

The Marlins' Scott Olsen was suspended by the team last week for insubordination and now this!

Florida Marlins pitcher Scott Olsen was arrested early Saturday morning in Aventura, Fla., the Miami Herald reports. Police said the third-year Marlins starting pitcher refused to pull over during a traffic stop.

He was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest with violence and fleeing and eluding a police officer.

The early morning arrest occurred hours after Olsen logged seven innings and a win against the Cincinnati Reds in his first game back from serving a two-game suspension for fighting with a teammate.

There's more...

Olsen, the winning pitcher in the Marlins' 10-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, continued to drive about one mile, running a stop sign before stopping at his Aventura home, Bentolila said.

He got out of his car and sat down on a plastic chair in front of his home. When backup officers arrived and tried to arrest him, Bentolila said Olsen kicked at the officers, who used a stun gun on the 6-foot-5 pitcher.

Olsen then failed a field sobriety test and refused an alcohol breath test, Bentolila said. A booking photo showed Olsen had two scrapes on his forehead over his right eye.

The arrest was the latest in a string of troubles for the left-hander. Friday night was Olsen's return from a two-game suspension without pay after a confrontation with teammate and fellow pitcher Sergio Mitre.

Olsen received a black eye last season from his friend and former teammate, reliever Randy Messenger, in an off-the-field confrontation in St. Petersburg. He also was fined an unspecified amount in June for making an obscene gesture toward fans in Milwaukee.

This guy is bad news.

For the record, I'd be really pissed if they completely cut off a Cubs game in the late innings so that we can see Bonds bat. Why the hell do they take the whole screen for Bonds?

With his extention & Bonds most likely on his way out, it seems that Sabean is looking go with youth or atleast better mix of youth with vets. Just have to see if he follows through with it.

The roster is another matter. The Giants are expected to move several veterans this season, both to free themselves of future payroll commitments and to open spots for younger players such as Fred Lewis and Kevin Frandsen.

"We have to be open-minded to almost anything with the theme of turning our fortunes around," Sabean said. "We need to win as soon as possible but also need to do more with development."

One of Sabean's chief criticisms is the Giants' lack of homegrown position players, which is seen as an indictment of the minor league system. Sabean and Magowan acknowledged the club needed to add more young hitters, perhaps scanning the trade market for them instead of acquiring rental players.

"If you look at teams like Los Angeles, San Diego, Atlanta, even the New York Mets, in all those lineups there's a good blend of players developed by the system and free agent players," Magowan said. "We don't have that kind of balance on our team. We've got to strive to get a better one in the future."
