Infield. The clearest edge is at shortstop, where J.J. Hardy, having regressed to something resembling a sustainable level of performance, still rates miles ahead of Cesar Izturis or Ryan Theriot; note also that the Cubs’ best shortstop option is currently playing at Triple-A. The infield corners present interesting quandaries about hot first halves against established performances, but even most Cub fans would concede that they’d prefer Prince Fielder to Derrek Lee the rest of the way out, while third base looks like a wash. Edge: Brewers

cedeno should be starting. no doubt. if you're against this you're against winning.

Yes, if Cedeno could carry the productivity that he has down in AAA up to the Majors then he should be starting everyday. Yet so far especially earlier this season he wasn't doing that, if his plate discipline has improved then we should give him a shot because I've always liked him as a player.

I would like to see Pie and Cedeno starting every day at the major league level for the rest of this year. Its not like we have much to lose, Pagan/Jones and Theriot/Izturis aren't very productive as it is.

Was the point of this tread to create some heated arguments?

I think most fans agree Cedeno should get another shot at the starting SS job again.

Um, I know Fielder is having a great year, but I'd still want Derrek Lee the rest of the year. Yes, his power is down, but he provides great defense, hit's .330, drives in runs, etc. I also don't think his power will stay this bad all season. I'm going with the proven vet over the young guy that got off to a great start.

I think a case can certainly be made either way for 3B and 1B. If I were just playing for this year I'd personally put my money on the vets usually and give that advantage to the Cubs. However it won't shock me if Fielder and Braun are as productive as Aramis and Lee the rest of the year either albeit with weaker defense.

where can i sign up to play fantasy baseball for money with some of these "proven veteran" supporters? i'll take prince fielder and russell martin and you can have derrek lee and jason kendall.

Prince Fielder doesn't have to catch errant throws in fantasy baseball... Lee is hitting 50 points higher (yes, 50), it's not such a stretch to think that he'll regain his power form in the second half (already has 2 homers in his last 3 games). He won't catch up to Fielder in home runs, but if we're talking real baseball for the rest of the year, I'll go with Lee.

And I wouldn't take Jason Kendall over anyone.

oh, lee has him beat in batting average? why didn't you say so...i take it all back.

one more thing though...fielder is slugging 124 points higher (yes, 124! waaay more than lee's robust 50 point lead in average) than lee.

I'm sorry I'd prefer a proven veteran gold glover that's hitting .330 over essentially a 2nd year guy that has yet to prove he can keep his numbers and torrid pace at this level all season. Just one guy's opinion. If you'd prefer Fielder, than fine. I know Fielder is slugging way higher, but I said FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, I'd rather have Lee. You never know what could happen from now on. Lee could outslug Fielder by a ton for all we know.

you, sir, are one big ass homer. while it's possible that Lee outslugs Prince the rest of the season, it's not very likely.

Based on what? The fact that Prince Fielder has shown he can keep his numbers up for a full season? I may be a homer, but you know generally what you're going to get with Lee. A solid, consistent player with MUCH better defense than Fielder. That's why I want him. There's more to baseball than fantasy stats. Fielder isn't a DH. And he hasn't been around long enough for us to know if he can keep this pace up. He probably will, but there's no guarantee either way.

But like I said, it's just one man's opinion. If you don't want Lee, fine, but don't criticize other's opinions simply because they don't see things the way you do.

i would say that lee is much more likely to regress significantly in the second half than prince, actually. unless lee starts hitting home runs (which hopefully he finally has), then his average is going to start plummetting very soon.

im pretty sure i have every right to criticize someone's opinion. If you don't want it to be criticized, don't post it. You can keep dreaming that Prince isn't better than Lee, but remember it's just a dream. Your nightmare of Prince being better than Lee is reality.

Possibly. But Lee has historically been WAY better later in the season than he is in April and May (.261 in April and May, .291 the rest of the year). If he follows suit, I think he'll be just fine.

and where did the line of thinking that there's more to baseball than fantasy stats come from? because it's pretty much not true.

So you're saying that defense means nothing? Why even give them gloves then?

here's a newsflash. Prince Fielder is going to end July with 33-35 home runs -- a figure that Derrek Lee has passed over a full season ONCE IN HIS CAREER

and stop posting batting average. It's worthless to me and everyone here. Batting average is a joke. its stupid. it doesnt even tell you how often you get a hit.
