This is very embarrasing what did I miss why were they throwing stuff on the field? There was no reason for this in my mind fans should be considerate of players on the other teams. We have great fans but this is getting riddiculous.

The bleacher bums are starting to get on my nerves. I've sat out there a couple times and a lot of them are just idiots who are there to get drunk. They have no idea what's going on in the game. A couple years ago I had this drunk guy sitting behind me who asked "Who's that?" when Kerry Wood was on the mound. Are you kidding me?

I agree. Regardless of what happens in the game, it's embarrassing for me as a Cubs fan to see people throw garbage on the field. It just makes the team and its fans look bad and I hope as many of those people as possible were ejected tonight.

There was a fan in the stands wearing a green t-shirt. The WCIU broadcast flashed on him after Aram's hit. When they showed him he had his arms out as if to say "What did I do?" It appears that an usher believed he may have interfered in some manner. Not exactly sure how he would have interfered--maybe he threw his beer on the leftfielder or atleast tried.

Righetti immediately came on to the field at that time and was pointing out there. Then the umps were looking/signaling out there. Right when that happened the crowd got upset. He may have been ejected whether he was innocent or not.

yeah what the hell was this about? you shouldn't throw trash on the field ever, but at least i understand why it's happening when an ump blows a call or the bullpen blows a lead. But when your team hits a clutch 2-out double? Come on.

There's an easy fix to the problem. Arest them for littering. The Cubs have cameras monitoring the bleachers, not to mention the ushers looking right up into the stands. Fine the morons $250 and let word get around like the idiot that was charged with a felony for running onto the field. I'ts embarrassing...

My original thought was either they were heckling the outfielder and he finally said something back that the fans didn't like, or some drunken idiot tried to pour beer on one of the fielders again. Then it erupted into morons throwing cups onto the field because the grounds crew ran out to clean up.

It is embarrassing. That's why I'd actually feel bad if Barry Bonds broke the record at Wrigley. Like him or not, I think the field would be peppered with cups and debris, and it would tarnish a very significant moment in baseball history.

I often sit out in the bleachers. I don't throw trash, honestly, and I wasn't there tonight.

One thing I can say is that HR games -- such as a game involving Bonds that people thought might be significant when they bought the tickets -- really bring out the sleazy element. A lot of drunk obnoxious types who loudly proclaim that they'll beat up anyone around them if the HR ball comes their way. I hope they had beefed up security for these games.

Those same fans sat in LF just to heckle Bonds.

But yeah, I don't mind trash on the field when its deserved... But when we're winning, that's pretty damn stupid.

I know there is always an extra security guard or two on hand in left when Bonds is out there.

every team has idiot / trashy fans

the Cubs fans that fit that description sit in the bleachers.

I was at the day / night DH in Sept 2003 and listened to what seemed to be a normal Cub fan tell the world how Kenny Lofton was one of the best defensive CF in the game.

True story.

Unfortunately, from my experience the Cubs have more than a lot of teams.

I wouldn't call most of those people fans. They are just the people that were able to get tickets to the game. There's a big difference.

That's because the Cubs have more fans than other teams. Bigger fan base also means more idiots. I do like the idea of fining these people when they litter on the field. That may make them think twice about throwing things on the field. I just don't understand why it's done. I would never throw something on the field, no matter how angry I were.

The ones that get caught are quickly expelled from the stadium. But the problem is, there's no way to catch everyone that throws something when there's 100 cups on the field.

Yes, but if you start fining these people that are quickly caught, word is going to get around that you might face a fine if you throw something on the field. I bet less people would throw things on the field if they knew they'd have to pay a hefty fine.

I'm not sure. I'm a Cards fan from central Illinois, grew up not hating the Cubs, but surely huge rivals. I guess I hated them when they were better.

Anyway - lived in Chicago, have many great friends who are Cub fans, real fans, went to a ton of games. You sit somewhere other than the bleachers and you get some great, knowledgeable baseball and Cub fans. I have no problem with that.

This was really embarrassing.

Especially on national TV.

I was none too happy.

I think that it is only going to get worse.

Exactly, the more the team wins, the more the 2003 bangwagoners will start to reappear because they want to be there for the "party."

And I think a fine would be great, or possibly some sort of minor arrest, although I think that's much less likely. The only problem is, drunk people tend to forget, or disregard the rules. Just look at the few idiots that have run onto the field this year. Would they have done that stone sober?

Bonds would deserve it... the guy is not only a cheater, but someone who broke the law by abusing illegal substances. He would have still been one of the greatest players in the modern era and a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he had to cheat since he wanted attention.

And if you don't think steroid abuse is a big deal, look at Chris Benoit.
