Hopefully he can pick it up back to his ridiculous pace from last year for them. Seems like a fair deal all around if he can. He can't really expect more than that as a DH.

Why, oh why, can't the Cubs join the extension brigade and get something done with Z tonight?

It's important to realize that Hafner will be 32-35(young 32-35, birthday 6/3, but still 32-35) during this extension.

I think it'll probably wind up being pretty fair for both sides, but I wouldn't call this a slam dunk win for the Indians. There also has to be a slight value adjustment that he's completely incapable of playing the field.

Its pretty comparable to Papi's deal, which is thought of as a steal. Additionally, its actually less than his MORP, which rarely happens. Definitely its a discount that he can't play the field, but his first three full seasons hes put up OPS+ of 158, 170, 183 (ranking 1st in the AL EACH year). The upward trend won't continue due to his poor first half, but even with that hes putting up 128 OPS+.
