Since the Cubs aren't allowed to add salary thereby eliminating all of the big name players (Arod, Burrell, Dunn, Tejada, etc.), how about this 3-way trade proposal:

Cubs trade Murton, Jones, and Marshall to Texas.

Texas sends Texiara to Atlanta and Victor Diaz to Cubs.

Atlanta sends Saltalamacchia to the Cubs.

Cubs get a platoon RF and a starting C and save money.

Texas gets a good young pitcher and OF and a platoon OF for the present and saves plenty of money.

Braves add a slugging 1B and money can be made up when Andruw Jones leaves for free agency.

What do you think?

Victor Diaz sucks

I was surprised when I looked up Diaz's stats to find that he has hit right-handers better than left-handers in his career-not exactly the platoon option that would help the Cubs, as they already have about 4 of those guys.

To get Saltalamacchia, we're going to have to part with something that really, really hurts, like Pie or Marmol+.

Atlanta would moving Salt. for Texiera, in essence.

But i don't see this being remotely feasible with Texiera hurt.

I can't see Atlanta doing that. We're talking about one of the very most valuable properties in the game in Saltalamacchia.

Teixiera was put on the 15-day DL on June 9th and hasn't returned yet, but I would think he would be coming off sometime soon and certainly before the trading deadline. Salty is very valuable, but he is blocked by Mcann and his experiment at 1B has been a disaster. Atlanta needs a 1B badly and Andruw Jones will be leaving after the season for free agency freeing up a ton of money.

no way texas gets enough in that deal. If Teixeria is moved they are getting a frontline starter and prospects. i'd love to get saltamaccia but it would take quite a bit to get him too

I don't see John Schuerholz giving Saltalamacchia away for a guy that's highly likely to test free agency in a little over a year.

The Braves don't often play the mortgage-the-future-to-win-now game.

Saltalamacchia is good but i don't think he is worth giving up Murton and Marshall. I see a good future in both.

If we had two Matt Murtons and two Sean Marshalls, I would trade all four for Saltalamacchia.

That would be ridiculous, Murton is patient at the plate and hits alot of doubles which will turn into homers, he also is a smart baserunner, not fast but smart.

Marchall's curve is very good and he can hit a dime 60 feat away, his control is astounding.

I won't address the other points (although I would take minor issue with some of them) but Murton is not a particularly smart baserunner. For example, he stopped at 3rd base when he could have scored easily for no real reason at all, and then got stranded there 4-5 times this year (including the game where he stopped at 3rd on a single that should have scored him, then a wild pitch should have scored him, but he just stood there and watched it).

he has to listen Mike quade, something that is very hard to do, Quade sucks, he holds everyone

You must have been sitting behind me last Monday night against the Rockies. Fontenot doubled and Lee followed up with a single. Fontenot was held at 3rd. The guy behind me went ballistic.

It would have been a close play, but I'd much rather have Ramirez up with 2 men in scoring position. Quade has done fine this year. I would never want to be a 3rd base coach, every move is second guessed. If you hold a runner, some are upset you didn't send him. If you send him and the runner is thrown out, people are mad you sent them.

It is truly a lose-lose situation.

i didn't see the play but fontenot can run so more often than not i'd send him,, how about the sac fly that was a really hard play and fontenot made it, he can flat out run.
