Levine was on the radio this morning and he mentioned that he's talked to people in the organization and told him that they are going to rework Pie's swing in the offseason.

sounds like the beginning of the end of Felix Pie

Well that makes a helluva a lot of sense for not playing him now. Jesus Christ this organization is terrible.

Either send him back down or let him play. You don't get better at doing something by watching others do it. At some point you have to do it yourself.

This jerking around of Pie is starting to irritate me. It's one thing when you have a conglomerate of low ceiling guys that don't have development to stunt and you can "play the hot hand", like the middle infield with Izturis, Theriot, Fontenot, DeRosa. Even if you want to protect Pie by platooning him for a while, I can deal with that. But refusing to play him to "protect his confidence" or to try to squeeze production out of mediocre players like Pagan is simply not worth stunting Pie's development, even more so when you consider that Pie is vastly superior defensively and on the basepaths.

They'll ruin him one way or the other.

It's got to be nigh impossible for an organization to have all duds at every position for 20 years in the minors. The probability of missing on every single draft pick since Grace has to be nearly nil. They've got to be teaching the wrong things, ruining players.

At this point I have one sage piece of advice for every kid we just drafted: ignore everything the coaches tell you, if you know what's good for you.

That makes sense. It's kind of odd that none of the ML hitting coaches he's seen have been able to improve him much. The whole Patterson saga was bad coaching from a lot of different people. He never should have been allowed to get to the bigs with the kind of problems he had.

You can't teach pitch recognition. It's a skill based on eyesight and reflexes, and if you don't have it there is nothing you can do about it. Patterson had other, raw athletic talents that let him do decently in the minors, but no amount of coaching could change that basic fact.

That's not even in the same universe as truth.

Duly noted.
