I agree to some extent to. Of course, I have auctioned off players too. I think the reason to do so is that a lot of people don't read the on-the-block updates. And personally, I like getting offers more than making them. Announcing who's available on here lets you know who is interested. It saves time rather than offering a player to a team that either isn't willing to give up certain players or don't have a need for the players you are offering.

 

When I have announced a player has been up for grabs on here, it has been because I have been in a position where I needed to make a roster move ASAP. With Marquis, I had Gallardo coming to the majors with a 2 start week, and needed the roster space to get him in my lineup. With Eric Byrnes, I traded Capuano and had a SP go down. And with no decent FAs at the time, I needed a starter going into the coming week.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't say I'm fond of people auctioning off players like this.

 

Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but to me it just doesn't seem right.

How is it different from what major league teams do at the deadline?

 

It's too difficult for me to spell it all out on why I don't like it. Obviously, everyone wants a better return via trade than the player they are offering. To me, using NSBB and pimping the player and auctioning them off to the highest bidder just makes it seem unethical.

 

I guess I'm just more old school with making a trade proposal or having someone else offer a trade proposal and accepting or rejecting based on whether you are getting enough to trade a player.

 

Pimping them on NSBB and stating that the offers will need to be extremely impressive to beat other offers just doesn't sit right with me.

 

If I'm the only one who sees it this way, I'll just shut up.

 

I suppose it would have been better to have leaked trade rumors to my favorite beat reporter that I am unsatisfied with my teams preformance and things just have to change. Then have it rumored that my best pitcher will be heading to another team. and when that does not stir up enough action, to claim that there was nothing to the rumors???

 

Or prehaps we should be careful not to announce that we are wheeling and dealing so that we do not hurt our fantasy players fantasy egos???

But I think most of the contenders in this league know that now is the time to decide if they need a little more firepower and how much of tomorrow are they willing to trade for today.

 

In my case, I decided that the owners who made offers for Beltran did not value him as I do. No problem there. But by testing the market I now know where I stand.

I just don't want to come to NSBB and open up the Roadkill forum and see 2 pages of So and So will go to the highest bidder. And not so much because I don't want to see 2 pages of it, but because it's more like a player auction than working a trade.

 

And I suppose I'm not really bothered by making it known to everyone in the league that you would like to move players on your team, but....

this is what bothered me. And I'd probably be even more bothered by it if I actually had an offer on the table that was very lopsided in favor of the guy trading Maggs, yet wouldn't be good enough if more could be swindled out of someone else.

I'm sorry I didn't post the offer, and it IS a hell of an offer. I've informed other members now of the offer, at least those that have shown interest. No, Juan made a change. I've had the same problem w/ trade requests with that team as well.

Fishbulb is in charge of that team from what I understand.

 

He's made roster moves this week. The day he took over, I recall him setting up his "on the block" page.

 

Has the trade proposal thingy been moved? It's always been in the upper right corner of the home page. Every time I read someone say "why isn't anyone responding to trade offers, I get paranoid that I might have missed one because it got moved.

I'm sorry I didn't post the offer, and it IS a hell of an offer. I've informed other members now of the offer, at least those that have shown interest. I wasn't trying to make this a debate, but I've been in this league since the inception, and we've always used this message board, or at least since it started, to announce if someone was available.

I've upped my offer, but I don't know how competitive it is. If it isn't the best offer maybe you can let me know what you have been offered so I can think how realistic it would be for me to beat it.
