What about Jacque for Laird? We need someone who has caught more than 50 games in their career.

Judging by last night, Laird makes Barrett look like a genius on the basepaths.

Their GM must be absolutely stupid to want Jones.

Yes.

I hope Hendry doesn't demand too much for Jacques. At this point, even though I think he will turn it around somewhat, I doubt he will come close to last season's production, or his career numbers. He needs to stop taking up playing time, and since Lou is too hard headed to bench him, he needs to go.

Given what we have received in the last ten or so trades, I would not worry about that too much. I alos believe that Lou would bench him if he weren't being told by Hendry, "Showcase him so we can trade him." Of course, letting him play exposes him as well.

It was mentioned earlier, but bears repeating: Jacque's swing and approach suck. His hips are way out in front and he tries to pull everything. He rolled over on at least two sliders that I saw last night. Had he gone with the picth they would have been easy doubles down the left field line; both were up in the zone. He tries to swing like Griffey, so the solution is obvious: trade his arse and go and get the genuine article.

Of note: I heard on ESPN 1000 this morning that Griffey has agreed to be traded to the Cubs specifically. Can anyone confirm?

Griffey? Really?

What's it going to cost? I'm guessing it's going to be too much.

I dunno about that. They desperately need pitching. Would you deal away some of the young arms to an intra-division rival? If so, whom?

Someone posted a few days ago that a scount(who frequents this board) said that the Rangers GM is viewed as the most incompetant in baseball.

I woulnd't be all that hesitant to deal pitching to Cincy. Not sure who I'd give up.

Maybe..Gallagher and EPatt?

Would anyone even actually care if the Cubs got anything but peanuts for Jones?

Just get him the heck out of there. Hell throw Izzy in as a consolation prize.

If I was a team that needed an LH'ed hitting OF'er and knew that Jones was avail. and the Cubs were willing to eat a % of that contract and doubtful much would be needed in return, I'd be interested.

If I needed a 5th OF with a little pop and could convince the Cubs to pay all but the minimum for him, I'd be interested.

I would be interested in him in a bigger role than that if I were Texas. They're obviously going nowhere this year and will likely be trading Lofton by August. They're getting a .684 OPS from RF. A .704 OPS from LF.

Overall in the previous 3 years Jones has a .777 OPS overall and .826 OPS against RHP. As horrible as he is this year, he's likely to get at least somewhat better and the lowest OPS of his career is .742.

I would try to talk the Cubs into paying $1.5M this year and a portion of next year's salary. I can make him my 4th OF at worst and platoon him in CF with Hairston/Byrd once Lofton is gone or in the corner.

You're buying extremely low and unlike the Cubs, have nothing to lose by playing him this year. There's a reasonable chance that you can get a CF who puts up an .800 OPS for less than $5M. If not, he becomes a somewhat expensive 4th OF who can hit RH and play all 3 spots while being in the last year of his deal.

Unless they have some very good OF prospects I'm not aware of, I can see this making sense.

Jon Daniels has orchestrated three major trades for the Rangers so far..

Traded Alfonso for Wilkerson and spare parts.

Then traded Adrian Gonzales and Chris Young for a year year rental of Chad Eaton.

Then traded CoCo Cordero and Mench to the Brewers for a 3 month rental of Carlos Lee.

wow..that is brutal..though getting rid of Mench is addition by subtraction.

I'll agree that he has done very poorly in his tenure in Texas, but I think you should mention that he also got Nelson Cruz, a pretty good prospect, from Milwaukee in the Cordero/Lee deal.

Didn't he also get Otsuka in the Eaton deal? He's been very good and could help them pull some good talent by either trading him or by making Gagne expendable.

If the Rangers are interested in Jones it could be because Rudy thinks he can fix Jacque's problems. If so, good thing he's going to a crappy team in the AL.

You say that as if you're scared he'll haunt the team. He's 32 years old, has a career OPS+ of 100, and has been below that level in 6 of his 9 seasons. Even if he gets back to his 06 or 03 form, he's still nobody to fear.

I was afraid to post it, but Gallagher jumped into mind immediately as well. How about Gallagher and Theriot? Can Fontenot play SS? DeRosa moves back to 2B when ARam gets back this week. I know it looks like a weak deal with the Reds perspective, but its really a slary dump for them so they should not expect much back.

suppose they would want an OF'er, considering Dunn may not make it back after this season?

If the Cubs can con them out of a decent prospect, I'd be all for it.

Hell, if the Cubs only get some Big League Chew and an Ivan Rodriguez rookie card out of the deal, I'd be all for it.

Bag of baseballs.....come on bag of baseballs...

It doesn't have to be baseball's, it could be golfballs, softballs, tennisballs.
