I wouldn't mind giving up the out if I knew we could excecute a sac fly...............however we probably can't.

 

That's giving up two outs.

 

Plus it takes days off Santo's life every time we leave someone at 3rd like that and I don't want to do that.

The thing that annoys me the most about this insistence on giving away outs to get one run is that it's always assumed by the supporters of it that these outs will be executed perfectly.

Why?? Why baseball scout, should everybody be able to get the bunt down? Why should everyone be able to hit a fly ball 275 feet whenever he wants. Hitting a baseball is a very difficult thing to do, bunting one not straight back to the pitcher or in front of the catcher may be even more difficult. Playing for 1 run will often get you 0 runs, and it will never get you more than 1 unless you've got a team willing to throw the ball into the stands a couple times for you.
