all of a sudden, the OF is crowded in Iowa... Murton has to play every day, then there's Coats, Kroeger and Walker, plus Hoffpauir plays some OF as well. Hopefully Soto can catch most of the time, so the lineup can go something like:

2B Patterson

SS Cedeno

1B Hoffpauir

RF Murton

LF Kroeger

C Soto

CF Coats

3B Moore

Very, very deep lineup in Iowa this year. If the Cubs return Gallagher there, the I-Cobs should win their division without much trouble.

that lineup is pretty close to what they ran out there last nite...here is what they went with

SS Cedeno

2B Patterson

RF Murton

1B Hoffpauir

C Soto

CF Coats

LF Kroeger

3B Moore

Put Pie at the top of the order and substitute Lee for Hoffpauir and I'd almost take that over the Chi Cubs lineup.

What is Kroeger's story? Where was he drated/acquired and how old is he?

***edit***

Is he the same guy who was in the Phillies organization? And looks to be 24? If so, how did we get him? I'm guessing the expectations aren't all that high?

That's the Kroeger. He is 24. He was once a highly regarded prospect who struggled mightily at the big leagues and then for two season at AAA after that. Expectations are kind of low because he's handled AA before, AAA will definitely be a better test. Cubs got him as a free agent.

Kroeger was once a highly regarded prospect for Arizona, but Arizona had a glut of outfield prospects, so they sent him to the Mets. He didn't really pan out there, so he has bounced around for awhile. AA was beneath him. The real question is he a MLB player or AAAA??? The jury is out. He could probably hit well at the MLB level, but with enough power to hold a corner outfield spot??? More likely he could be a useful bat off the bench.

Grr, goony wins.

3 Kroeger threads on 3 consecutive minor league pages. Hopefully he keeps producing so we can get one each time the pages turn over. By then he might warrent a callup.

Am I the only one who thinks of these guys when this name is mentioned?

Thanks for the info for those who responded. Although I wouldn't say that I am "discovering the minor leagues for the first time."

All you have to do is take out "Premium" to access those links, there is more Kroeger info there:

Just take the word Premium out of the link-it will take you to the same thread in the regular forum.
