Daytona News-Journal[/url]"]However, Daytona's Mitch Atkins was one of the happiest hurlers on the field because as he was watching one of the skills competitions, St. Lucie pitching coach Dan Murray informed the Cubs right-hander that he will be the East's starting pitcher tonight.

"It's nice to start anywhere, but an all-star game in front of your home crowd is extra special," said Atkins, who is fifth in the league with a 2.24 ERA and is 5-3. "They'll be rooting for (Cubs players) even more, plus my family is going to be here."

It was quite the turn of events for Atkins, because earlier this week he was scheduled to pitch for Daytona on Thursday night and not throw in the all-star game. However, he was scratched from that start so he could pitch in the mid-season classic.

The other Daytona Cubs who will play in the FSL All-Star game are:

OF Chris Amador

OF Tyler Colvin

IF Matt Matulia

OF Jesus Valdez

The Chiefs are facing 2006 first rounder Kasey Kiker, the guy who went one pick ahead of Tyler Colvin.

Murton is listed as batting 5th and playing RF... the I-Cobs lineup is now:

2B Patterson

SS Cedeno

1B Ward

LF Hoffpauir

RF Murton

CF Coats

3B Moore

C Richie

P Mathes

I'd guess that when Ward departs, Hoffpauir will shift back to 1B, with Coats playing LF and Walker back in CF. And Soto is the regular catcher, obviously.

Coats drives in Cedeno, who had singled and advanced to second on a Ward ground out, with a single into CF!

Edit: Wow. How did I interpret Hoffpauir as Coats?

And he leads off the next inning with a walk!

and steals second, then scores on a hoffpauir single

murton reached on an error in his second AB, grounder to short on a 1-0 pitch.

Veal is pitching out of trouble tonight... 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K. Tenn is up 4-0, while Huntsville is tied at 1 in the second.

another homer for ankiel, wtf

Ankiel's numbers are interesting-.276/.314/.590. Seems he's a home run or strikeout guy now. Still though, if he keeps this up some major league team will find room for him on the bench. He can never be anything but a bench player because of that OBP, but legitimate power bats off the bench can be sometimes hard to find anymore.

Tennessee with a big 5-2 win to go a half game up on Huntsville, who are tied 2-2 through 7. If Huntsville loses, Tenn clinches at least a share of the first half title. Veal pitched only 5 innings - probably had a high PC since he allowed 7 baserunners.

Iowa trails 6-5 after a PH RBI single by Soto in the 6th. Rocky Cherry tossed a perfect 7th, striking out 2. Would be nice to see him get back on track. Murton walked in his fourth PA.

Atkins line: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. He may well be done with A-ball. Colvin has gone 0-2 with a K, Matulia 0-1 with a BB.

Sweet, I think he deserves the call-up to AA anytime now.

3 HRs by Ankiel? Wow.

That kid was a 1st round pick? Wow I wasnt overly impressed with his stuff. I didnt see him break 88mph all night and the Chiefs got some runners on. Although they looked like the Cubs getting picked off first base by Kiker twice.
