Like I said, he's a cheap player who can start on an average team. A good team can't plug him in as a starter because he can't be counted on to generate runs like a good team needs from its left-fielder.

This is all pointless nonsense. A good team could very easily plug in a player like him into LF.

If he's an .800+OPS player, then sure - but he won't bat in a run producing spot until if & when he shows himself to be that kind of player. If he's hitting like he is now, they can do it only if they can absorb the offense elsewhere.

LF is not where you put complementary players.

This is just silly.

If you've got the right mix of stars, above-average players, and complementary players, it doesn't matter a lick how you deploy them in the field. There's no rule that says LF has to be manned by one of your stars or above-average players.

Your post makes no sense. You're aware he OPS'd .809 last season and that even considering his poor start to this season, his ML career OPS is .811, right?

So...if he were an .800+ OPS player (which he is) and shows himself to be that kind of player (which he has) he can play LF. I'm dizzy.

You would think teams would be lined up trying to get him. But that isn't happening, is it?

He's a fourth outfielder at best. Why would you move Soriano to play Murton?

A fourth outfielder at best with above-average numbers last season. Makes a lot of sense.

The A's had Barrett a couple years ago and pretty much gave him away to us.

I'm pretty sure Barrett was going to the Cubs all along in that trade, just that the A's had something that Montreal wanted and the Cubs had something the A's wanted, so it was just a roundabout way to get Barrett, IIRC

Right, Barrett was an Athletic for a matter of hours.

Even though we have agrued if Texeria in the OF would make are fielding worse, I must say I completely agreed with your comment earlier about not trading Murton for just a bullpen arm. In a package for someone better def yes!
