So far tonight Trammel has ordered a sac bunt from Pie in the first inning, and left Cesar Izturis in to bat with the bases juiced and two outs against a struggling pitcher in a crucial situation.

Honeymoon = over

No manager is going to pinch hit for his starting SS in the 4th inning, regardless of the situation.

Earl Weaver pinch hit for Mark Belanger in the first once, IIRC.

At any rate, how about the 6th inning down by three with a runner on second?

Mind you, DeRosa is on the bench, and Theriot can move over to SS. For that matter, why is Izzy even in the freaking lineup?

Isn't Lou still making out the lineups before the game?

Anyway, are we now going to hound each and every decision a manager makes, waiting to play the "he sucks" card when we find one that isn't the absolute statistically perfect move?

Did I say he sucks?

I said the honeymoon was over. Compared to the other managers, Trammel did just fine... though the bar is set pretty low for that.

Maybe we would be better off avoiding the honeymoon altogether then.

Lou likes to give people (especially his middle infielders) days off. DeRosa had started 12 games in a row prior to that-if they had pinch-hit him in the 4th inning, that would have defeated the purpose of trying to give him a day off.
