after watching the Datona game last night I believe that the only player on the team that could eventually get to the big Cubs is Colvin and it probably needs to be centerfield, Don't believe he will ever have enough power to play a corner.

How about the fans form the other minor league teams, how about the players on them, any heading for the bigs?

You're not counting the pitchers, are you? I agree, Colvin is it the only hitter I can see starting in the bigs from the current Daytona team.

C Jake Muyco has the defensive skills to make it....just needs to pick up the hitting some.

And I think Valdez could develop into a nice hitter.

Pitching wise: Atkins is the top one to make it.

Muyco isn't going to make the major leagues. He's 22, in A+, and has a career OPS below .550 (.510 this year).

Just position players...

Iowa

Pie

Patterson

Soto

Fontenot (bench)

Moore (bench)

Tennessee

Fox

Daytona

Colvin

Reed

Peoria

Muyco could do what Bako and Blanco have done...and countless other no-hit catchers....

for Peoria: Lansford is easily #1, Castillo #2, then Camp.

And Fuld should definitely be on your AA list...

No pitchers from Peoria?

ugh...i thought this was just position players....most our pitchers either struggle to get outs or are hurt.

Renshaw is good and reliable. I liked roquet who is battling age (24). maestri is good as a setup guy. They really like Carrillo but I dont see it. Ceda and Dolis are both hurt, and who knows how long it takes to get then back on track...

A couple of years ago I went through an old Baseball Guide and looked at the 1993 Arizona League short season stats. I think only 3 or 4 position players from the whole league even made it to the majors (I think Marvin Benard was the best MLB player).

Until you can more than hold your own at AA, the discussion is premature. From that aspect our organization isn't worse than anyone else's. From plenty of other aspects, though...

Oh yeah we are right up there with the Arizona's and Tampa Bay's of the world.

I would be willing to make a nice wager that Justin Upton is better as a big leaguer than anyone we have in our system. Evan Longoria also.

Reed is still very young and can be put at a position where offense isn't at a premium©. Craig, McGehee, and Kroeger are all bench prospects at best who are very old for their league.

Whats sad is there are at least 3 guys in Iowa that should be on the roster NOW.

1. Fontenot: Izturis should be gone.

2. Soto: Blancos damn contract

3. Piggy or Rapada. Piggys my choice because he's a loogy who can get some righties out. Eyres damn contract is preventing the right thing. PATHETIC.

4. Pie. This is kind of a different animal than the other 3/4 guys because Jones had a pretty decent year last year. Maybe if they hadnt gotten Floyd this would be a easier choice. Plus Pie needs the AB like Patterson does.

What Wuertz went through last year was probably worse than what these guys are going through, but still its pretty bad when you have these guys in AAA who could/should be in the bigs and IMPROVE your MLB roster but $ contract is holding them down.

What about Hoffpauir? He would be the 2008 version of Ward. I think he has a chance to make the ML roster.

24 at aa is very old?? i think i'd take the 24 year old with a 1.016 ops at aa over the 21 year old with a .464 ops in single a regardless of what position they play.
