Gallagher!

Looks like he'll start the 6/1 game vs the DJaxx. If it were a Saturday game, I'd think about going.

Iowa's offense continues to rake... up 3-0 over Oklahoma. Patterson hit a leadoff double and came in to score on Fontenot's double in the first... both look like they were close to being out. Pie is 1-2 with a 2-run single. Patterson prolonged the 2nd inning by drawing an 11 pitch walk, including fouling off 5 pitches with a full count.

Hey folks just got back from tonights "marathon" game from smokies park and let me tell you that this set of umpires has been "brutal" all series..... This game took over 3 1/2 hours to finish due to this umpire having a "key-hole" for a strike zone. I gotta give Sean credit for hanging in their as long as he did for you could see this ump was getting to him. I saw pitches that were all over the strike zone that this guy let go. Look at the number of hits each team had for this series and you could see that all these umps were calling the same. I hate to see pitchers from both side throwing good games that are being influenced by the umps. Anyways was nice to see the "smokies" come back and take the series and Sean is looking forward to the upcoming week back in West Tenn.

Daytona Heads Home After 3-1 Win

By: Matt Martinez

FT. MYERS, FL - Jesse Estrada had things going on Sunday afernoon in Fort Myers. In seven innings on the mound, the 6'8" righty only gave up one earned run on five base hits while striking out five as the Cubs rolled past the Miracle, 3-1.

Daytona (23-26) salvaged a split in the four-game set against last place Fort Myers (20-30). Unfortunately for the Cubs, they ended with a lop-sided 2-6 road trip on the longest Florida State League excursion of the season.

Darin Downs and Tim Layden were fantastic in relief of Estrada on Sunday as they combined to allow only one hit and no walks in two innings of work to help close down the victory.

The Cubs first run came in the fourth as Brian Dopirak ripped a two out single and advanced to second on an error by the shortstop. The error would prove costly as Kyle Reynolds laced a base hit to right field to score Dopirak from second.

Fort Myers would tie things up in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to tie things up at 1-1.

Daytona would answer back in the eighth as Chris Amador led off the inning with an infield single. Nate Spears laid down his ninth sacrifice bunt of the season to advance Amador to second and Tyler Colvin was walked intentionally. Jesus Valdez did his job in the clean-up spot as he lasered a single to left to score Amador as Colvin motored around to third. Brian Dopirak hit a deep fly ball to right field to score Colvin on the sacrifice and give the Cubs a 3-1 advantage.

The Cubs will return home Monday night to face off against the first place Brevard County Manatees. Monday nights at the "Jack" are always Belly Busters where fans can enjoy all-you-can-eat hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, peanuts and Papa John's pizza all for the low price of $10. Call the Cub's offices for details, (386) 257-3172.

PeoriaChiefs.com[/url]"]Chiefs Spilt DH Sunday

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs spilt a Sunday afternoon double header with the visiting Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at O’Brien Field. The Chiefs took game one 4-1 behind a strong outing from LHP Chris Shaver but dropped the second game 3-1.

In game one, Chris Shaver picked up his first win in three starts with the Chiefs as he worked five innings allowing just three hits and one unearned run. He struck out a season high six and walked three. Rocky Roquet converted his 11th straight save opportunity in two scoreless innings of work while striking out two.

Wisconsin struck first in the third inning after Chris Shaver loaded the bases with a pair of walks and then struck out Carlos Peguero which would have ended the inning but the ball got away from catcher Wellington Castillo allowing a run to score from third to make it 1-0.

The Chiefs responded in the bottom of the inning after Castillo reached on an error and advanced to second on a bad throw by the third basemen. He came around to score to tie the game 1-1 after Jonathon Mota reached on the second error of the inning by Wisconsin. Matt Camp then singled to left to drive in Mota and put the Chiefs in front 2-1. With Russ Canzler at the plate and still only one out Timber Rattler starter Kyle Parker fired the first pitch to the backstop to score Camp from third and push the Chiefs lead to 3-1. Alfred Joseph came up with a two-out RBI single to center field to plate the fourth Chiefs run of the inning.

In game two, Dylan Johnston who was hitting in the second spot in the line up for the first time this season hit a solo home run over the wall in right center field to give the Chiefs an early 1-0 advantage.

The Rattlers took the lead in the fifth inning after four straight hits off Chiefs starter Jose Pina starting with the number eight hitter in the line up Danny Santin. Kuo Hui Luo drove in his second and third runs of the series with a single that scored Santin and Alex Liddi to give Wisconsin a 2-1 lead.

Wisconsin extended their lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning when Peguero hit a solo blast off Pina that eventually landed outside the stadium after a bounce. Pina has now allowed a league high nine home runs on the season. Jose worked out of the inning by getting Leury Bonilla to hit into an inning ending double play.

Pina worked six innings for the second straight start to tie a season high while allowing three runs on nine hits but suffered the tough luck loss. Chuckie Platt allowed a hit in an inning of scoreless relief. Souza worked four innings in his first professional start and allowed just one run on three hits but did not factor in the decision. Joe Kantakevich worked two innings to pick up the win and Brian Kappel worked a scoreless seventh to earn his first save.

Gorman’s Pub Player of the game: Dylan Johnston (SS) - Dylan homered in his first at bat in game two, a solo shot over the wall in right center field to give him two home runs on the year. He finished the game 1-3 and accounted for the lone Chiefs run.

Notes… The Chiefs are now 4-4 in double headers this season and 1-1 at home…Peoria’s defense made five errors in the two games…The two teams will play another double header on Memorial Day beginning at Noon…It is Military Appreciation Day with all active members of the military receiving free admission…Monday is also Mountain Dew Half Price Monday with fans receiving half-price admission to either game…The Chiefs will send RHP Jake Renshaw (3-2, 2.96) to the hill against TBA starter for Wisconsin in game one of tomorrow’s double header starting at Noon…The game can be heard live beginning with the pre-game at 11:45 AM online at http://www.peoriachiefs.com or on WOAM 1350.

Sean got a hit -- his first?
The starting pitchers for the two games I went to last week (Berg and Hart) combined have one less hit than Gallagher has. :D
