ok, so now dempster's back to the pen.

What the hell? CSN now says he's back in the pen...but Dempster was just on CSN saying he was starting.

Now hes getting close to being the best manager maybe ever.

Honestly! I never realized how boring Dusty was until recently. Its like Z is running things now. The entertainment value alone at this point is just unimaginable.

Guzman back to the rotation, Lilly to the BP to replace Eyre (DFA), then bring up Marshall 'cuz we can, change Dempster to middle relief and make Wuertz the closer.

Takers? 8-)

If you really want to improve the pen. Just release Eyre and bring up Marshall. It's not that hard is it?

Bring Rapada if you want a lefty reliever. Leave Marshall stretched out in case you need a starter.

I wonder if they are basing any of these decisions on the belief that Wood will be back at some point later in the season to help stabilize the bullpen (I really hope not, but who knows...)

Also, if you are going to do this to your closer after one blown save, why the heck not just do it in Spring Training before the season started?

True enough, Rapada's L/R splits are worse than Ohman's. He's more of a LOOGY than Ohman and if you want a lefty reliever who can face righties, you'd be better off with Piggy.

Maybe Lou is pulling a joke? Dempster would be more than willing to be in on a joke like this.

With all of Lou's comments about the Chicago media asking him too many questions over and over again, it is at least plausible that he'd be pulling everybody's leg. This is certainly one strange situation.

Maybe the reporters just kept asking question after question, and then Dempster said something he shouldn't have.

I don't remember the exact contents of the interview, but it could have just been Lou asking him if he would be willing to be a starter, not a confirmation that he was going to be.

Whether or not Dempster actually gets moved back into the rotation, the very fact that the Cubs would even consider such a move is extremely disturbing. Dempster's ERA as a reliever is over a full point lower than his ERA as a starter; 3.93 vs. 4.99. Dempster's fielding-independent ERA is over a run and a half better as a reliever; 2.92 vs. 4.73. Dempster strikes out more batters as a reliever (8.05 vs. 7.36 K/9), walks fewer batters as a reliever (4.52 vs. 4.71 BB/9) and gives up far, far, fewer homers as a reliever (0.44 vs. 1.11 HR/9). In short, his ~200 innings as a reliever have been far superior to his ~1000 innings as a starter.

Add to that the fact that Dempster hasn't consistently started in over three years (more than likely increasing the number of innings pitched by your already weak bullpen -- a bullpen which will probably only get weaker with the loss of Dempster)and you just have to wonder at the brain trust that would give this idea more than a microsecond's consideration.

If your choices are 50 innings of a pretty good reliever or 100+ innings of a pretty bad starter... well, that's not really a though choice to make, is it?

I like your new posting style. You used to capitalize entire random words. Now you use a lot of sentences. It is funny.
