Why is it that year after year even with new players, they cannot do simple things like hit the cutoff man, run the bases full speed (Soriano looked like he was limping to me but still . . . ), throw strikes. I'm so sick of watching this [expletive]. And I really don't want to see Murton in the outfield anymore - he sucks. And his weak popup homerun doesn't impress me either.

I want to know why the hell Piniella left Howry in for so long. If he took him out before the home run, when the Phillies had only taken a two run lead, the game would have still been within reach. This loss is inexcusable, coming back from four runs down to take a two run lead, then giving it right back. You simply cannot leave a reliever in long enough for him to give up six runs in a single inning, period.

would you rather see 56 year old floyd limp his way to a .730 OPS? or jones hit .078 against lefties? as i said in the game thread, the cubs' problem isn't too many outfielders, it's too many shitty outfielders.

and this pen is just a disaster. i don't know how howry has ever had success...he throws a straight 92 fastball right down the middle with no breaking pitch to speak of and an occasional change up in the dirt. what a tremendous waste of money this pen is.

what I want to see is last year's murton or have him play like he is paying attention.

Or trade him. I would think he'd be easier to get value for then Jones. Package him to Toronto for Rios.

A manager using Eyre with the game on the line is a major problem. Lou should certainly know by now that Eyrehead is NEVER, EVER TO BE TRUSTED WITH THE GAME ON THE LINE.

So that excuses Dempster? This bullpen sucks! It shouldn't even of come down to Eyre.

No, I didn't mean that. Dempster is just as much (if not more) to blame for this loss. But over the course of the season Dempster has generally been solid and Eyre has been anything but.

There's alot of guys that have been solid, but it doesn't excuse the overall performance of this bullpen. Dempster flat out sucked! He sucked last year and I really was looking forward to Wood pushing him for the closer spot, but we know what happened there.

Eyre hasn't impressed me either. Neither has Howry. It's frustrating to see the starting pitching doing well and being ultimately screwed by the bullpen. There's no excuse for the bullpen having 11-12 loses 30 some games into the season.

It's very irritating!

What's the matter with this team is they are far too willing to accept players' flaws, or they just ignore them, and don't do anything to offset.

It's fine to have a all glove no hit shortstop, assuming the rest of your lineup is good. It's fine to have a defensively flawed OF, as long as your pitching and hitting is strong.

It's not like the Cubs are acquiring guys with impeccable resumes and they are just falling apart on the Cubs.

Soriano has always been a poor man's "star". Lee was never an elite 1B. He had one elite year, but the fluke factor, age and health probably means he will go back to being a 2nd tier 1B. The pitchers with control problems have always had control problems. They didn't just develop them with the Cubs.

It's a poorly constructed team. It's talented, but it's all mismatched talent.

And I think people blow out of proportion things like missed cutoff men and leaving the bases loaded or not hitting in the clutch as strictly a Cubs thing.

I think it is pretty clear that Hendry panicked, had his little Joel Goodsen "sometimes you just have to say what the (frick)", and tried to patchwork a team together while hoping Pinielle would just make things work.

His infatuation with big name managers exposes his nonsensical view that is probably tied to his days managing college players. He thinks a manager can win you games and he's got too much of a college, rah rah, we'll fight our way to victory attitude, when really he needs to put more thought into acquring a team of players that should win a lot of games, instead of a team that could win if everything works out for the best.

hopefully you feel better now . . .

I think when a .500 type team loses a bunch of 1 run games, you need to worry more about fundamentals.

I honestly don't care about this team anymore.

you and them both.

nice ab, aramis.

Even though '02 sucked, I felt optimistic w/Hendry and a new manager as well as Prior, Z, etc.

Now, I feel nada towards this team.

yeah...terrible farm system, terrible gm, a bunch of huge, long contracts for not very good players.

Pick one better than TB.

There's a team with a future. No matter what crazy ish Elijah does.

Is it bad that I was rooting for Sergio today? And I'm hoping Pinto comes in and shuts down the Cubs too.
