He was safe. Even though the call didn't go their way. It's not the worst play in the world considering the batter. Izturis is much more likely to GIDP than hit a double in that situation.

 

Lou has allowed far too many outs to be made on the basepaths, guys stealing third, getting picked off, all sorts of nonsense. I don't care if you think he was safe, he was on base and after trying to "make stuff happen" he was no longer on base. This team has too many OBP problems to put up with getting the few baserunners they have picked off.
