Where's Vance?

Hunting down Eyre after the game.

The question isn't will he find him...

Yep.

actually, Eyre was very downtrodden after the game. Every other time I've encountered him, he's been jovial and out-going, but he was about as sullen as an individual could be. Even though, he still walked over and signed autographs and talked to the fans. As much as we might not like his performance on the mound, he's a great guy. He's probably one of the nicest guys on the Cubs.

The most likely candidates from this club are. .

P - Rich Hill

P - Carlos Zambrano

C - Michael Barret

1B - Derrek Lee

3B - Aramis Ramirez

OF - Alphonso Soriano

My picks for those who will most likely produce like "all-stars" this year. Rich Hill, Derrek Lee, and Aramis Ramirez.

I'll start a thread campaigning this week.

Right now, I guess we need to decide who to focus our efforts upon.

I'm thinking Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, and Soriano. Since it's early, I think we can use last season's work to justify those at this point.

I'm also focusing all of my ballots on getting Sosa on the AL team this year. :)

50 votes cast so far.

100 vote a day pledges is all I need.

Now I know why Sanjaya finally got voted off American Idol: Vance is focusing on all-star balloting now...

As long as the Cubs don't completely suck, I'm down for a solid 50 per day, maybe more. I was doing fine last year until the West Coast swing in early May killed my spirits.

I understand. I'll start a thread devoted to it on Monday.

I've already cast 300 votes today. :P

In an MLB.com article, Lee isn't even mentioned with 1B All-Star possibilities:

Over on the NL side, there's an interesting choice to be had, as well. Albert Pujols of the Cardinals has, in recent years, been one of the most automatic choices on the ballot. If you're a body-of-work voter, then Pujols remains the choice, because over the past several years nobody has been better than Pujols.

But the 2005 MVP is struggling in the early going, as are several of the Senior Circuit's other biggest stars. Phillies first sacker Ryan Howard, Houston's Lance Berkman and the Mets' Carlos Delgado are all off to slow starts. If you believe the All-Star Game is for the best players, regardless of how they look over a month or two, you'll probably still vote for one of those guys, and it will be a fine choice.

But what if you are the sort who likes to reward the players who start hot? Or you like the rising stars? Then one natural place to look is the Padres' slick-fielding, sweet-swinging Adrian Gonzalez, who's been raking in the season's first month.

For a feel-good story, you've got a couple of fine choices. Colorado's Todd Helton is racking up base hits again, and hometown hero Rich Aurilia -- back with the Giants -- is hitting very well in the early going.

The NL features plenty of intriguing youngsters who will likely see time at first in future All-Star Games, if not this year -- Milwaukee's Prince Fielder, Arizona's Conor Jackson, Pittsburgh's Adam LaRoche and the Braves' Scott Thorman are all likely on the upswings of their careers.

So they mention Pujols, Howard, Berkman, Delgado, Gonzalez, Helton, Aurilia, Fielder, Jackson, LaRoche, and Thorman.

That's 11/16 first basemen and they don't mention Lee, who although isn't hitting for power has a line of .348/.451/.449.

Time to start taking pledges. Pledge 25 votes or more per day. I'd be nice if we could get over 1000 votes a day pledged. I'll begin with my pledge of 100 votes per day...but I've already cast 1000 votes in the first three days.

If you want to prove that all star balloting is a joke what you need to do is nothing at all. The fans will, as they always do, vote in some terrible household name like Mike Piazza for AL catcher.

The "Vote for Rory" campaign in the NHL this year was classic.

I'm voting for Murton also. I'll be damned if Lou doesn't play him but he's getting my votes.

I'm in for 50 per day.

Well, I'll admit it. Right now, I'm doing a straight Cub ballot on the NL side with the exception of voting Dunn at the expense of Jacque. I'll revise my ballot a little as the season progresses.

I'm up to a total of 1250 cast so far.

I'm hoping to add at least 100 to that total today.

Because he is to the Cubs what Kim Bauer is to 24.

Well, I'd watch Elisha Cuthbert in almost anything.
