I think this was posted on here last year or the year before.... can't remember when or by who, but I kept it, and it still (sadly) rings true:

It feels like you're in a car sliding on the ice towards a cliff and it's all in slow motion. You know the car is going to fall down it but for some strange reason you think you just might have a chance. Now you're falling into the rocks and you still think maybe....just maybe some miracle may happen to save you but deep in your mind you know it's over. This is what Cubs baseball feels like to me.

Lou's thinking retirement sounds pretty good right about now

I'll be shocked if he's a Cub next year...

I feel sorry for the position players. I don't even blame Eyre for this one. This is firmly Zambrano's fault! Yes, they had chances in this game, after Carlos left, but this was yet another big game in which Z failed to deliver. He needed to, at least, pitch 7 innings and hold down their offense.

113 pitches and 5 ER in 6IP isn't going to cut it for anyone much less Zambrano.

On another note, I sure as hell hope Lou isn't going to continue to reshuffle the rotation for Z. Hill and the others need to stay on their schedule becausse they are pitching well. Speaking of Hill, this sets up as another game where he's poised to be the stopper. Now Rich has very little margin for error...

For most teams it is still early, for the Cubs? Not so much.

What a crap team. We have some good players, but some good players don't get you wins when the other members of your team are sabotaging you.

So far we've been sabatoged by:

Izturcrap

Miller

Ohman

Eyre

and please get Jacque out of here.

You forgot Big Z.

Lou ought to trash every piece of furniture in the clubhouse after this.

He had better put the fear of God into each and every one of those guys tonight, especially the pitching staff.

The problem with that is it wasn't a team wide loss. Seriously, I didn't like some of the other play in the game but the offense was playing catchup from the bottom of the first until they took a short lived lead. It's sad. Unless someone can shake some sense into Z this will continue. When the team scores 6, and Zambrano is pitching, they need to win.

So Cubs fans have voted in the Comcast poll that Pie should stay in CF when Fons returns. Runner up was RF or LF. Sounds reasonable.

So rotation next year?

Hill

Lilly

Marquis

Guzman

Veal?

I would think Schidmazaazaz(sp?) before Veal....

Hill may be awesome, but the Cubs would still find a way to lose once he was out of the game. Or they wouldn't score enough runs for him.

I don't know. He's gotta fight his way all the way from high A in one year. Not very likely. I'd like it though.

I hope I get to see Lou go nuts .... what else can he say at this point... "Yep, we sucked, again."

What more can Lou do? He's made changes every which way and we still lose.

He is the reason that they did not have any relievers left. He should have left one guy in yesterday and hoped for the best.

I disagree. He couldn't anticipate a 14 inning game. He used his guys like he normally would--actually, Wuertz went longer than normal. The problem is Zambrano didn't pitch into the 7th inning. Lou's hands were tied. Everyone knew it coming into this game; not just because of the extra innings but because Soriano is sitting on the bench with one less reliever in the bullpen!!!

They'll win tommorow. But it's too late. They'll just be back up to 3 under. I keep saying to myself. Ok we won, now only 2 under. Win tommorow and we're back in. Then we loose. Then I think, well we need to win today to be back up to 2 under. Then we loose. Now we have to win to get back up to 3 under. I'm done with this. When the cubs are over .500. Let me know. Bye cubs.

Samardzija might make it to the big leagues before Veal (in Sept., since he's on the 40-man) but Veal is more likely to stick in the big leagues first. Veal is one level ahead of Samardzija and more advanced. Of course, amongst the minor leaguers, Sean Gallagher is closer to the bigs than Veal or the Shark.

no, 14 games and I'm still very optimistic. 3 of the 5 pitchers have been solid and tonight proves that this team can score runs when the weather is conducive to offense. I wish Z would stop sucking and Guzman was the fifth starter though. Right now, I'm more confident about Angel getting into the rotation...

I hope so. In a way, I think it would be more deflating, to the team, if he doesn't because he's been the most dominant starter. That's why I think there's a lot of pressure on him tomorrow.

I know it's early. But it's hard to be optimistic after games like this. We blowout win 10 runs up. We loose freaking ONE to ZERO. We lose FIVE to EIGHT. FOUR to FIVE. And so on. Dammit it just seems like. . I don't know.

I am optimistic because they are 5-9 and only 3 games out of first place. In another division this would be an early grave.
