Ok so we all know Ohman has sucked so far. He started really bad last year too and turned it around. He has definitely frustrated all of us but I think it's still too early to get rid of him.

12 pitchers is a luxury and Ohman has been the weak link. If he pitches well in Iowa he'll be back. I like that Lou wants to play the people who produce.

Again, he has no options left.

The Cub Reporter says he has one option remaining.

MINOR LEAGUE OPTION STATUS (Spring Training 2007)

* Player can be optioned to minors out of Spring Training 2007 only after clearing Major League Waivers

ONE MINOR LEAGUE OPTION LEFT:

Ronny Cedeno

Angel Guzman (see NOTE 1)

Rich Hill

* Roberto Novoa

* Will Ohman (see NOTE 2)

Geovany Soto

* Michael Wuertz

NOTE 1: Because of time spent on the DL in 2004 and 2005, Guzman gets a 4th option year in 2007. A player receives a 4th option year if he has not spent five “full seasons” (a “full season” being a minimum of 60 days on a major league or a minor league active roster–NOT including time spent on the DL–from the start of a season, or a minimum of 90 days total on a minor league or major league active roster–NOT including time spent on the DL–in a given season) by the time his first three minor league options have been exhausted.

NOTE 2: Ohman cannot be optioned to the minors without his consent once he accrues another 132 days of MLB service time. (Players cannot be optioned to the minors without their consent once they accrue five years of MLB service time).

Ohman hasn't accrued the time yet to refuse a demotion.

If Ohman goes down to Iowa, he'll never come back-because he will be on another team. I think the team would have to send down somebody else-no use in exposing Ohman this early. Guzman could go down, get a start in the minor leagues, and be ready to replace Miller if needed for example.

Ohman can still be optioned.

Hm, that's interesting. If that's the case, I send him down. We don't need three lefties in the bullpen anyway.

Say if Ohman does step up I think the best option would be to get rid of Miller and move Guzman as the 5th. That would get rid of the extra bp arm and give us a better starter. Guzman looked downright nasty last night.

Ohman's option, if I recall correctly, is like the one Prior had and the one Patterson had in 2005. He has the option, but he has to be exposed to revocable waivers before the Cubs can use it.

Then it's doable...

It is. But teams may view Ohman as a valuable commodity and put in a claim for him.

The Score is saying the DL is an option. They can invent some injury for him. OR, he's been injured all along. :wink:

Ah...I remember when Remlinger suddenly caught his finger in the chair when a roster spot was needed.

Maybe Ohman stubbed his toe or something.

I forgot about that.

Angel Guzman has been optioned. :cry:

He wasn't going to be available for the next couple days anyway. It will be very interesting to see what he does when he goes to the minors. If he starts a game, then he might come back up in 10 days as the 5th starter.

I agree. I think this sets up nicely for him to return as a starter.

Bingo; that's the only justification. He gets two starts at Iowa to stretch out, then comes back when he's eligible in 10 days and replaces Miller in the rotation. Or he gets one start and comes back earlier to replace another pitcher who gets "injured" and goes on the DL (a player can be brought back up before 10 days if it's to replace an injured player).

But if you do that you can't trade him. I'd bet they are trying to deal him off somewhere.

And it's stuff like this is one of the reason why this sorry franchise haven't won jack since 98 freaking years!

He pitched 2 innings last night. It's likely he'll get a pair of starts at Triple-A, and hopefully come back up and take Wade Miller's spot in the rotation.

Don't hurt yourself knee-jerking.

It was actually two innings, but I agree with your point. I'm convinced that is the reason he was sent down in the first place, so I look at it as a positive rather than a negative. There would simply be zero justification for sending him down otherwise.

EDIT: I see you corrected yourself while I was posting.

Chicago Tribune[/url]"]The Tigers are worried their pitching staff is a little too right-handed these days. Don't be surprised if they make a move for a left-handed reliever. The Cubs' Will Ohman is among those they are studying.
